One of my little feral cats is missing, he is neutered and has been gone for 5 days. His litter mate brother is still here and seems to be looking for him also.  Most always they are together and wait until the other is there before feeding. I am heart broken over this, I have searched the woods and left notes on the mail center for the condo about him being lost.  Tomorrow I am going to put a note on every condo door that I can.  How long is it possible for them to be away from their normal surroundings and still come home?  I know I  have no control over their actions I guess I just need to get some good news or support while I wait and suffer his absence.  I am so attached and feel helpless at this point.  Its so cold outside right now and I fear for his safety, any thoughts?

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
:hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

Oh boy do I know that heartache. Has it snowed in that time? Could he be holed up or snowed in? One year we had to dig one of the ferals out of a groundhog nest. He was buried under about 2 feet of snow. :( Several of them that didn't use our shelters would disappear for a few days after a storm.

Mine don't go on walkabout in winter. Just hole up for a bit after a storm. In fact, I have now worked with an animal communicator for five years. So when one of my ferals goes missing for more than a few days I call Ellen to find out if they're alive or not. So far, they come back usually the next day after she tells them I am worried and want to see them.

We just recently moved and relocated 7 ferals. One of them decided to explore outside of the immediate area in front of a snowstorm, in the snow. She was gone three days with terrible weather bearing down on us, and my traipsing around looking and calling was turning up nothing (we are in a wooded rural area). I couldn't take it any more and called Ellen. She checked in with Froggie every few hours. She didn't get enough information from Froggie for me to find her the first night, but with more info the next morning, I was able to find her. Poor thing was starving, cold, and terrified shaking.

Had anyone told me something like this before a friend hired Ellen and I saw her work via someone I trusted, I would have laughed at me and the suggestion probably. Now I can't imagine not being able to call her with my "emergencies." You can buy peace of mind. Well - I can.

:vibes: :vibes: :vibes: your feral is ok and returns home soon!!!

oh - not meant to be a sales plug. But if you want to just chat with Ellen about what she does and how, her number is on her website. http://www.enlightenedanimals.com

Sending off loads of vibes for Spot to return back home safely. Has he ever wandered off before for a day or two? I know the heartache and sadness you are enduring at the moment and can tell you that sometimes they do disappear for days at a time only to return looking very well. I had a feral kitty return after weeks of being missing. I hope that Spot will be back very, very soon. :cross: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

I also use Ellen (Enlightened Animals) and she is currently working with one of my cats that has been a bully to another for four years now. I recently and suddenly lost my King of the Castle cat, Pipsqueak, to cancer and since his passing Wendall (the instigator) has been even more relentless with Perla (victim). Pip used to protect her. Anyway, the change between the two has been incredibly amazing with no episodes for two weeks now since her communications and energy sessions. I have also used her services in the past for a sick dog. If you go to her website (LDG posted the link above) you can see some testimonials. She has helped others with lost kitties along with Laurie's Froggie. ShadowsRescue also uses a communicator and posted a link to hers as well above. It is just an option we like to through out there for someone to consider for their own mental wellbeing too. The animal communicators are also incredibly compassionate and even act as counselors during their whole process with working with you. Helped me on so many levels!

VIBES for Spot. :cross: :rub: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Sorry Spot is missing. Vibes that he shows up.
I haven't seen my favorite stray cat, Hercules, for over two weeks. I'm hoping, praying it's because the time I've been at the colony has been off (30 minutes from where I live). But my fear is this: I took him inside for a day (to see if he was microchipped; tested for FIV/FELK and given a rabies shot), and I did hear him sneeze once or twice. So maybe he caught a cold or had an adverse reaction to the rabies shot? (He was comfortable inside within 24 hours, exploring, jumping on a chair.)
FWIW: this is the cat I TNRd in May 2012 and later disappeared for about six months. Then showed up with chunk of fur missing from his neck area that had been professionally cleaned and sutured. I'm hoping his caretaker is keeping him inside.
THANK YOU all for the reminder about Ellen--I've used her before with Ritz and might give her a call/email if I don't see Hercules this weekend.

My 7 year old feral, Russel, disappears every once in a while, usually for about 2 weeks. I'm just ready to give up and there he is! So don't give up hope. If you didn't see any blood or fur around, that is a good sign too, that usually means he left peacefully on his own. How old is he? Some cats, when they get old enough and even though they are neutered, leave the area of too many males and find a place of their own. When he comes back, watch closely for any signs of aggression amongst them.   I'll pray for his safe return, please post us when he returns!

Update re: Hercules.
I did contact Ellen and she got a strong 'hit' that he was "around" and has in fact three homes he visits. She called him a "roaming Romeo", which actually describes him. He 'sucks' up to you.
Hercules was at the dumpster location Sunday morning (different location than usual) and was quite happy to see me, and vice versa. Hungry, and lots of head butts and climbed on my lap. (Ritz smelled him and would not sit on my lap until I changed pants.)
I hope Spot comes back. I know some of my other ferals disappear for a few weeks and then return as though nothing had happened.

That is great, Cindy. Sometimes, unbeknownst to us, our feral kitties do have other resources. Pretty darn smart too, in case one resource becomes obsolete. Very glad to hear that Hercules gave you a proper hello! Surely, Ritz had a different opinion although I suspect he is used to mom coming home smelling a bit "off". ;)

More vibes for SPOT too.......... :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
