I waited too long to edit! I should add, my grandmother named Elizabeth went by Betty. I remeber being very confused by this when I was 5 or so, because my mother's best friend Lisa was also named Elizabeth. . .:lol3:
On my mum's side Elizabeth and Henry.
Two of the kittens I took in the year before last are named Lizzie and Henry after them.
My Dad's father was called John, but everyone knew him as JD. I have to idea what my grandmother on that side was called, they both died a long time before I was born.
EDIT Just talked to my Dad. His mum was called Dora May. My Dad's 82 tomorrow.

-- but when they came through Ellis Island, Isabella tried to Anglicanize her name, as many did. So she went by Alberta. My Dad (and all his siblings) were born here. My Dad is the youngest; he was age 14 before he learned his Mother's REAL name! That was when she and Gaetano went for their U S Citizenship papers.

I never knew my Dad's - they died before I was born - and I can't remember their names.
My Mum's mother was Clare, a name I love, and her Father was Frederick. I named my first cat Fred in his honour.
