So, I have a 16lb cat, and have been wanting to get him a cat tower for awhile now, but nothing seemed sturdy enough....

Last weekend my Dad and I got together and he helped me build one; a 5.5foot tall climbing heaven that does not wobble, and has massive shelves to accommodate Matt's large size. So without further ado, Matt's new tower :

We introduced the tower using a combination of catnip and treats, to mark it as theirs.

Happily, Little Helen, the foster cat with the destructive scratching habits, found the sisal post immediately

So now that I've shown off the tower that we built, I'm curious as to what other people have come up with to suit their own cats' needs?

That's a great cat tree!

Can I ask what you covered the platforms and the hidey hole with?
We went to Home Hardware and bought some of that front hall runner-mat that they sell for about 3.49/foot. it was easy to wrap around and staple, and has the benefit of being rubber-backed in case anyone (Matt) throws up on the tower. :)

Ah yes I know what you mean, we have some down at the patio doors in the kitchen that leads out to the garden.
Thank you! :D

That's awesome! Nothing better than something custom built for your cat's personality :)

That's a nice tree too. I might have gone with that if i'd found one, but I only saw 2-teir trees at the Walmarts near me. I already have one of those, and Matt can't scratch properly. Plus, like you say, it's a little wobbly. We used an L-bracket and screwed it to the wall after it nearly fell over on Matt as he jumped off. They really need to put bigger bases on these things :/

An L-bracket, that's a good idea!  Yea, this one might as well be a two shelf. He doesn't get up on that top platform. I think it's too shaky. The second shelf lines up perfectly w/ the window sill, so it works.

I do put one of his mice up there sometimes & it's fun for him to reach up there & knock it off.

Here's a couple of pictures. The first one just cracks me up! He looks so funny, he is pulling back from my hand.
