Hello

Trying to bring in a stray cat, for the most part, who is staying under the bed about a week now

Until  get her to a vet for shots, is my cat in this house who is vacccinated

protected just in case the stray cat has any of the feline diseases

I did give her a flea treatment though already

If she is a stray, SOMEONE had her before, so hopefully she has had some shots. Cat bites almost always turn into abscesses, so be careful. It may take a while before you can bring her to a vet, but the best scenario would be to keep them apart until then. Most diseases happen within a certain period of time, like distemper or rabies, so you can eliminate a lot in a few weeks. But others aren't readily seen, so a vet would be needed. Bless you for taking her in, she's one very lucky cat!

I would keep them separate.  The newbie may have an infection or cold, so no sense in spreading that.  As Di and Bob said above, rabies probably isn't too much of a danger, but she may also have FELV or FIV.  When you get her to the vet, have her tested.  FELV is the worse because it is pretty contagious.  FIV positive cats can live long, healthy lives and it is not spread easily (deep bite wounds when males fight, through breeding with infected males, etc.)

She may not have any of these (fingers crossed) but as I said, no sense in taking a chance.

She probably is a stray and may have been on her own for awhile, so she's probably frightened.  You are a godsend for her, although she may not believe that right now.

Thank you for helping her!

thanks so much for the good thoughts and support

I am stlll patiently waiting for her to make her way from under the mattress and my other cat is not interested in

meeting her , and I am keeping them separated anyhow for now

I do not want to rush her to the vet, only because she may lose trust in me if I scoop her up and put her into the cage,

but I know this is something I will have to do soon enough to check her health

Again I thank you, please feel free to advise

:)

You want this cat to the vet very soon.  She may have worms, fleas and/or other illnesses that you do not want exposed to your other cat.  She will learn to trust you again.  Just put her in the carrier and cover the carrier with a sheet or towel.  This will help to calm her.
