Hi All,
I am new to this site and I have been an avid enthusiast for giving my cats the best food there is available. We Have 3 kitties we got in 2013 that initially started out on Firstmate canned (available in Canada and Western USA) and slowly switched them to raw.
While raw was great for them for 1 year and a bit, we had to switch them back to canned due to the danger of giving them raw as Avian bird flu affected over 250,000 chickens and turkeys in British Columbia in November of 2014 and our supplier was local. Raw was a lot of work, even commercially prepared, as we had to beg our cats to eat it within the 30 minutes before it would go bad.
I have recently learned that even a canned food like weruva often has carbs from potato starch as does the other canned we are giving them, Firstmate. So after doing some research, I saw that the next best thing to giving homemade cooked or raw would be Tiki cat. I was very impressed by: 0 carbs, high protein, good calorie count, free range chicken, no hormones or antibiotics, no BPA cans. I am aware it's more expensive, but know too well that vet bills down the road for CRF and urinary blockage can be sky high. If you have ever had a make cat get crystals, you'll know what I am talking about. There is no doubt in my mind that kidney disease and cats eating potatoes, carrots, peas, tapioca, carrageenan etc. are related.
So has anyone heard of Tiki cat being sold in Canada. I looked online and did see it on Amazon, however, from other forums here I see that Amazon vendors may end up selling cat food that is close expiration date.
Thanks!
Bella
