I'm sorry if the same thread is somewhere else. I am disable with RA and typing is very painful so I don't have much time or the ability to search on here.

10 days ago some family came to visit. All 4 members had contracted ringworm from either the kids school or a pet im not sure. They said they were treated and no longer contagious.

Tonight I founf a flaky patch on one of my cats ears. I looked online and it looks like ring worm. I took a picture but it's blurry.

I will call the vet tomorrow but my question is how do I contain this? There are 3 people and 3 cats in this house that might have been exposed to ringworm 10 days ago. Is my whole house infested?

I also have a crocheted afghan that I purch for another family members baby. How do I disinfect that?
Help!:(

Hi! I would remind you to not freakout. Ringworm is kinda like athletes feet, uncomfortable but not so serious. I would put some yeast infection med on that spot, vacuum and spray vinegar around the house. A cat gets exposed and has to develop their immune system to kick it out if his/her system. The vet will probably suggest some potent meds. Mine wanted to put my cats on a med that had to be followed by blood draws to make sure the med wasn't ruining my kitties liver. I decided to just let it run its coarse. They all got over it eventually. Other people have very different approaches to ringworm but for me, I see it as everywhere and important to let your kitties system take care if it. There are also Lyme baths for helping them through it.

Vinegar will not kill ringworm. There are products that can be ordered that are laundry additives. Ringworm can be a nightmare to deal with with multiple animals in the house. I unknowingly brought it into my home when I got my second cat for my cattery. We managed to get rid of it, but it was work. My vet at that time refused to use the medicines available to treat it so we used lime dips and LOTS of cleaning with bleach. The medicines available now are as safe as any other that we give our cats as long as you follow the vets instructions. This is my opinion so has no scientific basis, but I would try to keep the cats in an unstressful environment if possible. In my experience with ringworm,it seems to break when a cat is stressed(going to a new home for example) or the immune system is not as strong as it should be.

ACV many say helps. The spores are everywhere though so you will never rid the environment completely and it lives a long time in that environment. Just be careful and do research. When my cats had it I stumbled upon lots of sites that want to sell you lots of cures. Ultimately the cat has to get it in check and you can not only help her in that process. Many who think they cured their cat of it with diligent environment cleaning for months are taking credit for something not theirs. It was just time and your kitties immune system. But you could also go read in the section of this forum for breeders. When it breaks out in a cattery I bet they have good tricks to speed up its length of active infection.

Thank you both! Yoda has an appointment today with the Vet. I will see what he says and do more research and decide what to do. You both gave great advice that I will take into consideration. I am trying not to stress out but I am going out of town with all 3 cats tomorrow and I am scared I will infect the world. Here is an updated picture of his ear. Its defiantly ring worm ugh my poor baby!

Ringworm is a PIA but not serious.  It can be a pain to get rid of.  Is there anyway you can get out of taking the kitties somewhere?  Don't be surprised if you get it too, it's the nature of the fungus.

I have to go to another state for a doctors appointment and don't have anyone to watch them. I don't trust the kitty hotels. And they put them in tiny box jails. Mine would cry none stop. 1 cat was a bottle baby premie and he grew up to be evil and clingy and he eats clothes and tries to eat my girl kitty. He demands we cuddle at night and I craddle him and rub his belly. Lol he's not friendly and anyone that would watch him he would bite for sure.

I don't care if I get it honestly. I got it when I was 10 from school. Many many years ago. I know I'm already a carrier since its been 10 days but I was going to see my 6 month old niece and my nephew and I had a gift for them. They are crocheted stuffed animals and I'm wordering if it's ok to just wash them and it'll be safe? 1 I made and it took me a year because of the arthritis in my hands.

I just don't want to spread it to anyone else. Ugh what a pain! [emoji]128546[/emoji]
