Hi-I just joined this site and have a question about this. My cat has a benign cyst on the side of his mouth (not inside) and I am looking for alternative ways to shrink it. It's the size of a small grape and has been drained by vet several times. It's expensive and stressful for my boy, Moses. Will coconut oil help? He enjoys the taste so I started mixing this, along with a small amount of turmeric spice, in his wet food.Anyone have any experience with this?

Oh poor Moses but sounds like he has a great meowmy! I am not sure on the Coconut Oil but wanted to bump up your thread as I noticed no replies. My apologies on that and hoping this will catch someone's eye who may have an answer. In the meantime, did you ask the vet about the coconut oil? Or maybe contact a Holistic vet? :dk: Good luck ! :vibes:

My vet says NO and the holistic vet I sometimes email (he's in Arizona) says ABSOLUTELY! LOL. Since I use homeopathy to great use I am going by the holistic vet's suggestion of starting out in small amounts.

I can't tell if it's really helping but his fur is definitely shinier! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

He will no longer eat the turmeric spice, not sure why, as it doesn't taste like anything. Maybe he doesn't like the texture?

Has your vet discussed removing the cyst rather than just draining it.  I know I have a sebaceous cyst that will slowly fill up, get inflamed and then drain.  It hurts right before it drains but apparently not enough for me to get it removed.  I put up with it mainly because it takes a long time for it to get to the inflamed state.  I know with those it will be a continuous cycle until I have it removed.

It was a possibility but three reasons why I'm against having it removed: Cost of surgery with possibility of it growing back 2) he's 15 and it would be stressful for him. 3) It doesn't bother him or interfere with him eating.

It just looks scary on the side of his mouth and I would feel better trying home remedies that aren't stressful or invasive.

Are you just using the coconut oil internally or externally also?  It sounded like you are just putting it in his food.  I have had limited success using it externally as well as internally.  One of my cats has skin allergies and when he scratches till it bleeds, I've used coconut oil on the wound and as long as it's somewhere he can't directly lick off, it will heal the place up in a couple of days...if he can lick it off it obviously doesn't help.  I also give him coconut oil internally and I'm not sure it's helping any with his scratching, but like you say, his coat (at least the hair he has left that he hasn't licked off) is beautiful and soft and silky.

I know it's been awhile so I thought I would post an update. He has been taking coconut oil internally but it hasn't really helped with his cyst. However, I decided to give him a small dropperful of colloidal silver internally each day for the last week and his cyst grew bigger.

This morning I thought he had food on it so I wiped the cyst and discovered it was not food at all but a hole that was draining brown fluid and a little blood! The colloidal silver seems to have brought it to a head which was why the cyst got bigger. Now it's slowly draining. I cleaned the cyst and have now applied coconut oil to it. I will continue to give the cs as it seems to be really helping!
