My darling Lucy was a rescue kitten and is now nearing ten years old. About 2 years ago she had urinary tract infection and was treated by a vet. I also gradually switched her to purina,s dry cat food for urinary problems. She ate that till i took in another cat who was abandoned. The lady that found him helped me with the vet bill to get him neutered and shots since i am on disability. I thought he was a kitten (vet says he is one year old by his teeth) so fed him kitten chow. He loves gravy off canned but wont eat them meat. Anyway, my senior cat found his kitten chow and loves it. My concern, of course, will it cause another urinary tract infection. She seems more active on the kitten chow and hasn't gained weight yet since it's been 2 months on the kitten chow. Thank you.

canned probably better then dry for her anyway, not enough moisture in dry food which is probably why she had an urinary tract infection in the first place

I wouldn't recommend feeding your senior the kitten chow. The Urinary S/O formula she was on has additives (including salt) to get her to drink more and keep the urinary issues at bay.

I too would encourage you to look at adding canned food into her diet. By doing this, you could certainly offer her a "treat" meal of the kitten chow, should you choose too. If so, add a few tablespoons of warm water to the canned to increase her fluids.

Thank you so much. She ate canned food as a kitten but then began to refuse it and stuck to dry. What if i gave her a mixture of the urinary and cat chow?

She says she was feeding Purina's urinary formula, Urinary S/O is made by Royal Canin. I'm thinking she's talking about the non Rx Purina One urinary formula. Can you clarify @3happycats

Can you try Fancy Feast Classic brand wet food? I had a cat who refused to eat wet food because she was addicted to dry but when I gave her Fancy Feast she ate it. It does have by-products but it's low in carbs and a lot of cats do well on it. She eventually started eating better wet food because she developed a taste for it.

Yes, you are right, it's the nonperscription purina one brand that i use and so far she hasn't had a recurrence. I also rinse out their water bowl at least several times a day and at least once overnight in and effort to keep all 3 of my cats drinking.
I can't afford a lot of fancy feast but even a few cans a week would be better than nothing. Thank you for the idea. Tomorrow is pay day so I will be sure to get her some.
