Why won't my cat use any of the stuff we get that was made for cats?

Now I am not talking about food. She loves food more than she loves me lol I'm talking about things like toys and things like that. My cat has always slept on my bed ever since she was a few weeks old. A few months ago I got a pet bed for her. She never EVER used it. Instead she'd jump back on my bed and slept there. I ended up giving it to a family member who's small dog does use it. Waste of 15 bucks there. Then for Christmas my little sister wanted to give her this little "house" that has two feathers and a ball with a string attached. Since my cat loves going in boxes and bags I thought she was going to love it. Wrong. She ignored it. I tried putting catnip inside the little house to try to attract her (which by the way she ALSO ignores catnip!) nope, did not work either. My mom bought these little balls for her to play with, those were never used either even if I tried to play with her. She's so picky with everything. Oh but boy if she sees an empty grocery bag she starts playing with it. Oh and don't get me started with candy wrappers! She loves playing with candy wrappers!! She goes crazy. In other words, anything that is not meant for playing, she plays with it. She loves shoes, pens, paper, strings, marbles, bottle caps, pen caps, bugs, bra straps, anything she finds on the floor, OH and did I mention she's addicted to legs? Even better for her if im not wearing pants D'x why can't she play with toy mice and balls like a normal cat! Lol

Kind of like when someone buys a really nice toy for the child and the child prefers the box that it came in.  Go figure.

I had a cat who would only play with the little plastic rings that secured the tops on gallon jugs of milk. If I got her a toy from a store she would look at me like I was nuts. So I would save those little rings in a cup on the counter. When she lost hers she would sit by the counter where the rings were kept until I gave her another one. On cleaning day I would find the rings everywhere: in potted plants, behind the fridge, under the couch, down in heating vents etc. I would clean off the ones that weren't too chewed up and recycle them back into the cup. At least it was cheap, but when people would visit they would pick them up and try to throw them out until I explained

Why won't your cat play with toys from the store? Probably some secret code of cat behavior to make us confused!

One of my cats used to love those plastic rings too, so I started saving them for him. I'd keep them in a desk drawer. Whenever he heard the drawer open, he run over and start pulling the rings out onto the floor. He would also chase the rings if I threw them.

My cats are spoiled for the most part but when it comes to this they would rather play with boxes or plastic bags than the toys I would get them. They both have their own beds but rarely sleep in them. They would rather sleep with me or on the otttoman in the living room

My cats mutually love string, and fishing rod toys. Jimmy loves bating small toy mice, laser pen and his own tail.

Duchess loves nerf gun bullets and toy mice.

They both like it when I put treats inside an empty tissue box, they spend ages trying to get the treats out. Great to distract Jimmy whilst making my own dinner (highly food motivated.) They both like boxes.

I have bought expensive cat toys which just get ignored so I don't bother buying any more. They want to play with rubbish... So be it! ;)

My happy place.
My girls have a big basket of cat toys they never play with.
We brought a Da Bird for them and although they both played with it they much preferred it when the "bird" fell off and just left the string. They go crazy for string.
They also like to play with hair elastics that we ping across the room, drinking straws, paper plates and hazelnuts to name but a few. :lol3:
