Maybe someone else can help me. My cat Dee is 3 years old, and unfortunately he is overweight. When he was a kitten he got an upper respiratory infection but ever since then he has been totally healthy, other than his weight of course. I have 4 cats including Dee. He has always gotten along very well with all of them. This morning I couldn't find him anywhere. Finally I found him hiding in the closet, he wouldn't come out. This behavior alone was very odd because normally he comes up to me right away when he sees me or if I call for him. Not only would he not come up to me but he wouldn't eat either. That's extremely abnormal. I've separated him from the other cats and given him a fresh litter box, thus far (3 hours) he has not used the litter box at all.  He has not had any water. I gave him wet food, all he did was drink some of the gravy out of it, so at least he has gotten some liquids in him. He is hiding under the bed now and will let me pet him, but as soon as I get him close to the edge of the bed he hisses and runs deeper under the bed. I don't know what is going on. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

hiding all the sudden is often a sign of something medical is wrong. take him to a vet to rule out anything medical. anytime a cat hides, show aggression or have litter box problems or showing odd behavior all the sudden, they are telling you something is wrong, please take me to the vet. that cats way for telling us something is wrong since they can''t speak english

I tend to agree with you on this.  Maybe waiting 24 hours and if this behavior is still happening then seeing a vet is a good idea.  If he was just scared by something then he shouldn't be exhibiting that behavior any more.

Ok, I was planning on taking him in tomorrow if it continues! He has come out from under the bed now, just sleeping on top of it. Thanks for the advice!
