Forgive me if this has already been posted but I'd like to get to know more folks here personally so I'm starting with this.

How many have tattoos? Pics? Want a tattoo but haven't gotten around to it yet? What are your ideas or plans for future tattoos?

I have three tattoos currently with plans for new tattoos and additions to current ones.

My first:
It may sound cheesy but I got this tattoo after a really bad breakup. I needed a permanent visual reminder that I'm a good person, worthy of love and respect. It's simple but I'm still in love with it.

My second, which I posted a photo of in my intro:
This was originally going to be my first because I had been planning it for years. I just needed to find the right image- I wanted it to look slightly painted and less like the classic tattoo style that is most popular. I wanted all the colors! I had booked my appointment and discussed this thoroughly with my tattoo artist a couple of weeks before my mother died. I added the hummingbird in her memory.

Most recent:
This is my mother's message to me, pulled from an old birthday card. It's on my right forearm and seeing her handwriting and message reminds me that she loves me and beings back good memories.

I have plans for future tattoos. One idea is something I've thought about for nearly a decade- I want a sort of abstract depiction of a vulva, something whimsical, appropriate but powerful to represent my feelings about women and childbirth. I felt so empowered by the birth of my daughter and I'd like to translate that feeling into a tattoo.

I also have quite a collection of drawings my mother did that would make excellent tattoos. It's just a matter of narrowing them down. Here's just one example:

No. At one time, I thought I might want cat's paws running up the back of my leg. Or a picture of my Rainbow Baby Banshee's face on my calf. But ultimately, I can't do it. It's simply not me.

I can understand that, tattoos definitely aren't for everyone. That said, all of your ideas are really great. I half-joke about getting all my cats faces tattooed on me, portrait style, but I don't know that I'll do that. But I still dream about it.

Yes, I have quite a few tattoos. A few were done while I was living in England. They're not bad, I still like the design and they remind me of the person I was back then.

I've also got a back piece that was done by quite a famous tattoo artist in my second year in Japan. It was featured in a Japanese tattooing magazine because the artist is famous and he is the student of the even more famous Sabado Hashi.

I'd like to get another, if ever I have some spare cash it will be going towards more ink.

I'd LOVE to see a photo. And yeah, the only thing holding me back from getting a tattoo every day is money. I saved for so long for my larger piece.

My happy place.
I have a butterfly just above my ankle which I had done when I was 23 (long time ago!) and also went on and had my belly button, ear cartilage and tongue pierced. All out now too, I actually broke a back tooth in half on my tongue bar and got a lecture from the dentist!
I absolutely loved my tattoo at the time but now I'm in my 40's I hate it, it just looks like a blue blob and I never wear skirts anymore either.

I have a tattoo of my little black vampire cat Hexie (in my avatar) sitting on a crescent moon looking at a star. He was my first cat ever.

I heard over and over when I was younger from my mother how my Aunt's father (aunt by marriage) was an old Navy vet with blue blobs all over his legs that has once been ports he was at.  It must have stuck because I just haven't gone there yet.  They are just too permanent.  I'd hate to regret it.  I remember when guys were getting the tribal arm band tattoos.  They were cool.  But now all it says is "hey; your 40."  (or rapidly approaching it.
)

One thing I do think I would like is a wedding band tattoo.  My finger doesn't fit my wedding band anymore and I tend to break out in eczema in between my fingers where they meet my hand.  But then again; if my skin is sensitive, I probably should research if a tattoo is even feasible.  I've had a few other ideas over the years.  But nothing has stuck in my head as something I want on myself for the rest of my life.  It would also have to be easily covered with clothing; and then unless it's sentimental, what is the point?

My BFF has a lot of tattoos (for a woman).  They really fit her.  Quite a few are sentimental; one for each of her parents (they have both passed away), one for each of her kids, an anchor on her ring finger for her husband, etc.  Others are just pretty.  She said it feels like it was a phase.  She still likes them; but it's not the big deal it was 10 years ago.  She is looking to add one for the dog they recently lost.  She has a mermaid on her arm for her oldest child, then added a smaller baby boy one for her son. She wants the one for her dog to go along with them; because she was her baby too.  To me; those are good reasons to get a tattoo that you won't ever regret.

You can always have it touched up, altered to reflect how you've grown or covered up all together!

I have 4. I have a rose on my left shoulderblade that I got when I was 19. I keep it covered from the sun (a tattoo's worst enemy) so it still looks good after all these years. A black panther on my right hip that I got when I was about 22/23. A band of purple roses around my left ankle that if you look closely, have little skull faces hidden in the flowers and my favorite one is the memorial piece I got for my sweet DH. It's a black bear sitting under a pine tree watching the world go by. I called him Bear and he was never happier than when he was up in the mountains in Colorado. It's the only one I have a picture of. I had it done by a very well known artist in Miami. It takes up the majority of my left forearm. I call it a portrait of him that's only a portrait of him to me. The photo was taken after I had gotten back from getting it done so the shiny part is the A&D ointment I put on it.

If tattoos end up looking like Sailor tatts, all blue and blurry, it's usually because of too much sun. You could get your tattoo covered over with something else. Make sure you always wear sun screen, the stronger the better, when you go out. My first tattoo is nearly 20 years old now, but it still looks OK because it hardly ever sees the light of day.

I don't think it's the sun that's the problem with mine (never been a Sun worshipper) although I actually never knew that it affected tattoos. A while after I had it done it started to itch and become raised and inflamed and when I had it looked at I was told that I had a reaction to the red ink. I had heard of that before.
I I was younger I probably would have something done with it but not now.
