Hi I took my cat to the vet nearly two weeks ago and he confirmed she is pregnant with a max of three weeks to go. She isn't very big at all a very small belly. She is eating every hour and is dying to get outside but I was told to keep her in. She has pink nipples which are slightly crusty. She sleeps a lot and very affectionate as always. I can not feel any kitten movement. When she was at the vets they only managed to find one kitten with a strong heartbeat as she was distressed and we decided to stop. Do you think I have long to wait and does everything sound ok?

We have a good collection of articles in the Cat Health section which you can access by scrolling up to the brown bar, clicking on Articles, and then choosing the Cat Health section and scrolling through the choices.  To make this super easy for you, I am copying the links regarding birth, delivery and newborns for you here.  After reading this information, let us know if you have any more questions.  And good luck with your approaching new arrivals.

How far along did your vet say she was? Basically everything you have said sound normal.

On another note, I sincerely hope you will consider spaying your cat after the birth.  an article on some of the many advantages to your cat in doing this can be found here: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/spay-and-neuter-your-cats

It sounds completely normal. As your vet said it's around 3 more weeks 2 weeks ago, you probably will wait a week longer, maybe even a bit more as small litters tend to have a little bigger kittens than large litters and thus it might "feel" as if she's further along. My friend's cat was predicted to have her kittens the first week of Januari, and they were born healthily the 3rd week. So even vets might be off on the date.

Just make sure you have a place for her set up so she can start feeling comfortable at her birthing spot. Also, make sure to change her diet to kitten food as she will need the extra energy. It's preferred to keep her on kitten food until she stopped breastfeeding, at least that's my opinion.

Keep us updated! And if you have any more questions, feel free to ask! ;)

Hi thanks for the quick replys!!

She's begining to get restless. Cant decide whether she was to sit on me or the floor. I take it she's uncomfortable. (I know the feeling) guess it's just a waiting game. She's all set up in the spare room. Just hope she wants to use it and not my bed!

Don't worry they like boxes & smaller places.  Let us know when she has them!  Good luck.

UPDATE: so still no kitty's. Think the vet got it wrong. But yesterday she was cleaning herself a lot and today she won't stop meowing. She wants me to follow her upstairs into my daughters wardrobe. Then she lays down. Tossing and turning. She has been panting a little bit. But every time I come back downstairs she comes to get me again. Is this it???

She's still the same. She settled in her spot for about an hour but now she's started again. She won't let me leave her. She had two mouthfuls of food about half a hour ago. But she's getting louder and louder. Do I have long to wait? She's found her spot in my girls wardrobe and they go to bed at seven. Don't really want her giving birth while they asleep haha

Do you see any convulsions? If so, these are push contractions (Her body will obviously convulse as if she needs to push). If you see these, and still nothing is out 1 hour later, call the vet. If you don;t see these yet, and no other signs either like loss of blood or water, then I would wait a little. It doesn't sound wrong to me yet. But if you are worried, call your vet. Calling can help you, as this can be really stressful and exciting!

About half an hour ago she had her "plug" come out. If that's the right terms?! She's continusouly cleaning herself. She's very relaxed. I have seen slight movement from her stomach but I think that's the kittens moving. As it wasn't an obvious movement. She's moving around a lot too x

Sounds well and nice.  Lotsa of precontractions, which is good, its natures way of preparing her and her body.

But as Bianca said, watch out if you clearly notice active, but fruitless labor going on and going on...  This we dont want to see, especielly not after the first kitten.

Sometimes they just pop out, you hardly notice when and where.   Others work some.   Hopefully nobody needs to labor long and fruitlessly.   Although we had forumists who being there did saved the day,  being their midwifes with everything this means.

Ah, rub her tummy if she allows!   It helps her in the prework.

Good luck!  @charlottecala

We had our first kitten at 16:30. Nothing since. She's cleaning the little one and feeding. She has eaten a bit herself. Seems very content. When and if do I expect anymore?

They can have pauses, hours or even days.  As long as it is as now, everything apparently OK, so to speak, be vigilant but you can wait and see.

Its if you notice problems, when you must worry.  Alike unfruitfil labor, fever,  much panting, bleedings,  restless when you must contact your vet asap.

As it is now, you can wait and see, I think, truly.

Good luck!

Ok so have a eventful afternoon I think we are all done. Three beautiful black kitty's all safe, fed and loved by mummy. An hour or so between each one and waited for me to be there all three times. All sound asleep and cosy. So pleased. Thanks for everyone's help, it's been emotional! X

Hi Ya everyone.

So on Saturday Izzy had three babies. I eventually had to move them as she had given both in my daughters bedroom. She settled for most of the night in my spare room and then moved them back early hours back to my daughters bedroom. She just can't stay there I have two very young girls who will stress her out. Last night she was in my room for ages asleep so I thought she was comfy and safe so moved their bed to my room. Middle of the night she's gone UNDER my divan bed. That's not practical either. So I've just made her bed in spare room again in a dark corner, which is boxed off so she's protected with warm blankets. Food water litter tray everything. But she's already trying to move. How do I get her to stay there? It's the safest place in the house for her and babies.

Thanks

If you cant close her in there, it may be difficult!   Cat moms cant be very unlogic in these situations, and they usually win.

If you have a door, use the key.  Or have something blocking off the door...    Possibly a Feliway diffuser in there will make her more relaxed and thus, happy with the place.

Good luck!
