Hello,

We recently adopted an adult cat. He is pretty shy. When we first brought him in he hid behind the entertainment center. I put his cat carrier out and he would go between the carrier and the entertainment center. When I came home from work I noticed he peed in the cat carrier. I figured it was probably too scary to get to the litter box. I cleaned the carrier out. So, I moved him, his carrier, and food into the laundry room with the litter box. Last night I came home and spent time with him in the laundry room. He is a sweet boy and cuddled. He even peeked out to the kitchen and living room. This morning I found he had peed in the carrier again. I cleaned the carrier out and got a hood for the litter box assuming the open litter was just too scary again.

Should I remove the carrier totally forcing him to hide and therefore go in the litter box?

We took him to the vet right after we got him. Health wise he is good. He does have an appt scheduled to remove some bad teeth, but that is it. At the shelter he was very friendly and not shy. So I think he just needs some time.

I go in the laundry room and pet and brush him, and he is fine. I took the cat carrier out and put in a box with a hole cut in. This means he has two binding places now. The litter and the box. I am hoping that since the box has no bottom (just tile) that he will opt to pee in the litter.
