So today, it snowed. Sooty was outside in the garden (I was too, I love the snow), and he was going a bit skittish..

He was playing with the snow like it was a toy! I made little snowballs, and I threw them at Sooty's direction. He seemed to like it! So I played with him for quite a while, hoping to get rid of most of his energy. As if it rains, he sometimes goes out in it, and comes back home very wet. I would have loved to take pictures of him, but I didn't have my phone with me, and I didn't think of going inside to get it!

So do your cats like the snow? Sooty appears to.

This made me think of a journal entry from ages ago, about my now-deceased cat who then still thought he was a kitten, and still got to make regular trips outside. I dug it up to share:

Puck behaves as though the snow is a living creature. It might be that he is lonely, having lost first a wary ally in Abby, and then a distressing adversary in Lucky. It might be that he no longer has someone to watch out of the corner of his eye. I let him out to play in the snow, and I sat at the window and watched.

He ran across the courtyard and skidded to a halt on the other side. He snapped around and pounced on a spot three feet from him. He crouched on his belly, rolled onto his side, and batted at the snow just in front of his nose. He got up and stalked a bit of ground twenty feet away, and after prowling for a few feet, he sprang forward and chased it down. He ran first to one side of the yard and then to the other, hiding and leaping and pawing as he went, and then he ran out of view of the window.

My cat does like to run out into the snow (on the safe ground of our balcony) and run back in! But only once per snow. I think she shares the human impulse of making the first footprints!
With rain she does the same, but prefers to linger when its over to enjoy the cool, quiet humidity and drink from a tiny puddle. We both enjoy that time together.

I would say they like it but they're fascinated by it. If I track snow into the house they sniff and lick it before they touch it and when they do touch it they freak out over it
