I've read a fair amount on this site and have found it outstanding-just dying to apply many of the suggestions as needed for different situations but wanted to comment on the CAT Therapy section and say that to make a long story short I recently contracted pneumonia and last night was in alot of pain and it kept me up all night but probably the only calming influence aside from my wife's love and understanding was that the cat, who usually favors lying on my wife or at her feet, lay close to my side on the bed and I petted her and she stayed there all night and I felt she could clearly tell I was in distress-no I was not howling in pain which would have likely driven all humans and feline from the house but the point is that I knew our cat knew I needed support and she gave it. That along with the good Lord's help and me listening to my wife and family that love me and the doctor and I may recover just fine. Kudos again to these magnificent but mysterious felines!

Aww!  I know I've heard many stories over the years of cats who make great nurses!  There are even some studies out there about the healing power of a cat's purr.  I believe it has to do with the frequency they emit the purr at.

I don't need a study to prove to me how great cats are!  When either one of my girls sit on me and start purring I instantly feel more relaxed!

Funnily enough, the show Doctor Who has a planet full of anthropomorphic cat nurses!

OP, I'm glad she was there for you. There have been times when I was severely distressed/depressed and our Anya cat often liked to place a single paw on my arm and lie near me as if to say, "There, there. Everything will be all right."

I loved those cat nurses!!  They were actually nuns who nursed.. The Sisters of Plenitude.
