I guess I'm just here for moral support.

We've been to two different vets, and so far my little fuzzbutt is just not responding.

One day I came home from work to find my 8 year old cat, Ziltoid the Omnisciet, had vomited up his breakfast.  He then proceeded to vomit the rest of the night, not eat, and just look overall miserable.  Thankfully, I got him into his regular vet the next day.  He sent him home with some anti-nausea pills and told me to bring him right back for rounds of tests if he doesn't respond.  He didn't respond, and ended up needing to go to the emergency vet where he was found to be severely constipated.  They ran a few tests while they were there (Chem 17, electrolytes, and FIV(?)) and he came up clean.  Aside from needing an enema, he was a healthy cat.  He went home with some appetite stimulants, and some nice food for me to assist feeding him until he gets back to eating on his own.

Except... he hasn't.  It's going on a week and a half since he's eaten enough to sustain himself on his own.  He went back to his regular vet and got an ultrasound for cancer.  Nope. His GI, stomach, liver and pancreas are all fine.  The only thing we found were tiny, tiny, tiny bladder stones that we caught early enough.  Now he's on c/d to hopefully deal with those.

He just... won't eat.

I've tried warming up his food, giving him all his favorites, tuna, chicken, homemade chicken broth... and even his worst pleasure; the friskies stuff.

The last thing left is a ranula that he's had for months.  We tried doing an easy treatment on it, but it didn't work and it came back.  Except now he's lost 1.5 lb and I'm worried he won't make it through the salivary gland removal surgery.  But, prior to leaving his ultrasound, the vet drained his ranula just to see if he'd eat without it bothering him.  He didn't.

I'm just so frustrated and heartbroken.  He takes to assisted feeding well enough, and i'm hoping to get his weight back up, but I want Ziltoid to be back to being... well, the Omniscient one.

And on top of everything, my family is adamant that I'm being silly and that I should have had him pts immediately.  =\

Celestina K :( I am feeling so sorry after reading your post. Sometimes we are so helpless that we become hopeless. Please stay positive and do your best. Hopefully some miracle happens and your cat is all well again. Stay strong and never let go!

Very sorry to hear that, I know its bad to see a cat get constipated, had to deal with it when the vet wanted me to put my cat on hypoallergetic food. I had to give up and return to her normal food. Now she has a cone and is also particular about the food. Her habts have changed and she doesn't really want her old food anymore. I ended up giving her a can of fancy feat gravy every day and then fancy feast dry food.

Maybe go to the pet store and buy a can each of different flavor from different brands. Never mind the ingredients for now, just see if there maybe something she picks up on. I guess sometimes cats change their favorables and you may find a new one.

Have you tried fortiflora?  I find my cats will eat anything I sprinkle it on.

Ooh, I've never heard of this!  I'll go find it if it will help.

BUT HE DID EAT LAST NIGHT :D!!

It was just very little.  Right now he's eating around the same amount our tiny 6.5lb cat does.  For reference he was 10.5lb before he got sick.  Now it's a matter of getting his intake to be higher without having to stress him out by assisted feeding.
