This morning I opened up a 3 oz can of Merrick duck pate and what was inside was NOT a pate.   It was some sort of mush.   It looked like small chunks of something with a bit of small carrots.    It didn't smell bad or anything...maybe chicken so wondering if another one of their foods was put inside accidently .

I've never had this happened before.   I've only fed 2 Merrick pates so I don't know if its another flavor of theirs.

I bought the case from Chewy.

Not sure if I should contact Chewy or Merrick

ps. I'll take a pic later and upload it

I feed the 5.5 Oz Can and there are no carrots. I too got this from Chewy and it looks like what I bought from Petco. My cats at it with no problem. Can you post a photo of the label? I wonder if it's mislabeled.

I would contact both Chewy and Merrick. Both will likely want lot #, etc.

And, yes, definitely NOT duck pâté, lol!

I've fed a few different flavors and can't say that this looks like any of those.

So I called Merrick.     The lady at customer service said she's never heard of anything like this happening.

She asked for the sell date and lot number.  She also offered to send me out some replacements so that was nice.   Though hopefully this is the only can in the case i bought from Chewy.

Weird!  I buy Merricks pate in the 3 and 5.5 oz. cans, several flavors and have never seen that.

Looks like cowboy cookout, their non Pates all have carrots or sweet potatoes. I would keep it and have them send replacement.

that looks nothing like cowboy cookout. CC is a dark reddish color and has chunks, like squares of meat.

It doesn't look like any cat food I have ever fed and my cat eats the Merrick duck. It looks a lot like dog food to me.

PROBLEM WITH MERRICK TOO! I'm so glad you posted this!  I've been buying Cowboy Cookout for years by Merrick. It's rich in meat, my cats loved it.  Just opened can bought last night of same.  75% GRAVY!  Plus for the first time my cats won't touch it.  Worried now about Merrick. Called their customer service was told "never heard of this problem before." gave them lot#. Glad we have this forum.

I just purchased and fed Merrick Duck pate last week and it was what you would expect.

This situation brigs to mind this:

In 2nd place because Merrick was bought by Purina in 2015. They say the company will still operate independently with no changes. The takeover process will take many months. For these reasons, I would say the product is probably still fine for now, but after 2016, let’s revisit what’s happening with Merrick and the quality of its ingredients.  (If you notice anything, let me know.)

Something to continue to monitor, but I've seen more than one of these threads that something isn't quite right with a can of Merrick.

Glad I found this thread, I thought it was just me.  I buy Merrick regularly and recently got a can of the chicken pate that looked, well, like something threw up!  I didn't see any carrots, it just looked horrible.  I freaked out and threw it away.  The next can I opened was normal.  I didn't call them or anything and the bad can is long gone, but if I see another I'm calling them.  It was absolutely nasty looking.  I'm a bit concerned now because I've purchased Merrick for a long time, I purchased the dog food as well before my old pup passed away a few years ago, and never had a problem until this.

Update on my previous post...I opened another Merrick cowboy cookout yesterday from the batch I bought at Petco. The 2nd can was normal, lots of meat, not just gravy like the previous one. So maybe it's a packaging issue. But u definitely should call them about that first can and get credit voucher for it you shouldn't have to psych for it!
