hello i was doing some research on feline distemper because next month is Maia and Foleys yearly check up. they both got the shot before foley as a kitten and Maia later on. so i wanted go know if the vaccine booster was really necessary and i found this article. i am certainly not giving yhem their shots after reading that. they are up to date with their rabies though.

here's the link for the article.

I personally do not give my cat shots,

my cat has a huge bump from a couple years ago from a shot

my older did recently get distemper and rabies(about two years ago) because we got a kitten

but other than that, the kitten got her first shots and that was it

yeah I don't want to give them those shots the vet insists on it but I don't approve it and they never go outside and have no contact with any other animal and that article really scared me

The rabies shot is one we have to maintain as it is state law; and if the cat ever did bite someone, well, the consequences are dire for the cat.

Other than that, none of the other shots should be needed beyond the initial round.  If you can afford it, you could titer to show the cat is 'covered.'

And yes, my vet will allow me to skip the shots but then if the cat needs any treatment (a dental for example) I am required to get the shot.  Grrr.

You may also want to shop around for a vet who is more in line with your thinking on this.

I have gotten away with that before, telling the vet that I will schedule an appointment to do it but now I am going to tell her that I absolutely dont want to vaccinate.
