My vet prescribed my cat tresaderm for his bald spot on his front left arm, neat the armpit area (suspecting ringworm). Do I have to worry if my kitty lick the spot after I applied tresaderm on? The dosage is rub in one drop every 12 hours.

My cat definitely tried to lick off the medication, and it seems very bitter to him. Should I put a ecollar on him? If so, should I leave the collar on the whole day or just couple hours after applying the medication?

Thanks.

Please forgive the very delayed response!!! I hope you come back to see this! :cross:

I have not known Tresaderm to be super effective against Ringworm, but surely I am not a vet and do know it is prescribed for ringworm. It must be refrigerated at all times though! You may have to use the collar for an hour or so after application if your cat is licking off the medication immediately after application to the area.

Did the vet take some hair/spores to run a culture? This would be my recommendation. It takes about 7 days to get the results back. In the meantime, I would continue with the Tresaderm according to your vets instructions.

I like to suggest that IF this is positively ringworm then I shave all around the bald spot at least 1/2 inch margins and then apply the fungal medication beyond the infected lesion. Sometimes, if more lesions are present, then I would shave down the cat completely to remove all fur thus eliminating spores to fly around the environment and spread the infection.

Please read through the following article. This will help get you up to speed on how to efficiently treat and cure ringworm: http://www.thecatsite.com/a/ringworm-in-cats
