Hi my cat started up on predisone again on thur, was on last month, he has been fine eating. This morning puked up huge hairball,
He then threw up whole food three hour later, daughter gave him a little dry because it is bland, he was begging for food when I got HOME gave him tiny bit of wet, he threw up right after. He is now again begging for food, my vets are gone blizzard coming here, I won't be able to drive him later to emergency it's an hour away. Could it e meds? Could it be from hair ball?

Vomiting can be caused by many things, such as IBD, flu or virus, obstruction, ect.

He could be having a reaction to the medicine. It can cause vomiting. I would stop the medicine for now. I also would not give him any dry food. You can try some bland food such as boiled chicken without onions or garlic powder. Or a tiny amount of wet food.

What kind of food is he on?

In the meantime, I would call any open vet to ask about what's going on even if you can't make it in now due to the storm.

-----

Ask the vet about the medication and whether you should stop it. I would call and talk to someone now though.

It also could be a fur ball obstruction (mentioned) or many other things.

Try to stay calm and call around to any vets open in or near your area.

Yes. Definitely call any vets whether they are emergency vets or otherwise.

Why did your vet prescribe the predisone in the first place? Does he have IBD?  Did your vet say to start giving it again on Thursday? In other words, what prompted this? Did the vet prescribe it for another reason?

If he was doing fine before the medicine and started vomiting afterwards, it could possibly be the medicine.  Only a vet could say.  He could also have something else going on.

Is he on a special diet?  If he has IBD or any allergies to chicken, he could be throwing it up for that reason.  Did you recently change his diet or start a new batch of food?

Is it possible that he ate something he was not supposed to-trash, any other medicine, plants, any other toxic items?

Hang in there.

He was on it because he had an ultrasound in dec that showed mild lympothy( I'm sure I'm totally spelling that wrong) among other things, deformed kidney(just one) gall bladder sludge, etc. he was sick and wasn't eating which prompted this. The vet suspects the start of cancer or IBD. I'm not betting the endoscopy because he said it won't 100 confirm it. I'm not getting a biopsy because he has a heart condition. He's been through a lot these past four years and I don't want to stress him out. Last month he was great on the meds. Never had an issues. I gce him boiled chicken and he had been fine

It sounds like he has a whole lot of stuff going and on.  Poor little guy!  I'm sorry.  With all that going on, I would definitely take him back to your vet.  In the meantime, I would call any open vets and see what they recommend and find out what you should do about the medicine.  It sounds like the vet prescribed the steroids to calm his stomach and get him to eat.

A cat who stops eating can get hepatic lipidosis, which can be fatal.  It's very bad when cats stop eating.  So, I would continue to feed him what he will eat.  It sounds like appetite is not an issue right now.  So, that is good news.  However, you need to get him to a vet if he continues to vomit to determine the cause.  In this case, I would definitely try to contact a vet.  There is a lot going on.  Hang in there.

Also, keep him hydrated too!

He was just at the vet Thursday. I called him yesterday but he already left. I have an appr on feb 7 for a recheck. He is fine today. I have just been feeding him boiled chicken and broth and we will resume his normal food EITHEr later or tomm.
Maybe his body is adjusting. Maybe it was the hairballs and he needed to get the rest out. Or it could be his issues.
Yes he was prescribed that for the eating and inflammation.
Thanks for all the advice. I did call a hospital and never heard back :( my vet should be in tomm.

I'm happy he seems to be doing better! It may be a flare up of his IBD, a furball or his other conditions.

If he's eating the chicken, that's great. If he does not want that, you can give him his regular food. Preferably the canned because it's easier on the stomach and contains more moisture, which is important. Make sure he's eating and that he's getting plenty of fluids. Hydration is important. Is he drinking plenty?

Then, you can call your vet when they reopen to ask about all the vomiting since Thursday. I would recommend that you ask your vet about your cat's food. Cats with IBD tend to do better on a single novel protein, limited ingredient diet, such as duck, venison or rabbit. Oftentimes, a vet will recommend a prescription diet. Mine eat a prescription diet. There are other less expensive alternatives. But only the prescription food manufacturers will say that the prescription food does not contain traces of other irritating ingredients.

You can also do a post in the Nutrition Forum here asking for food advice. There are lots of knowledgable people who have experience with cats with IBD and food sensitivities.

Hang in there and keep us posted on your baby. Stay safe.
