A thought occurred to me - how do raw feeders deal with power outages during winter storms? A massive storm is expected to hit this evening and last until Wednesday, I haven't had to deal with any power outages in the past. A generator is not an option for me if the power does go out, I know the fridge in general should be kept closed as much as possible. Do you feed whatever raw you already have thawed in the fridge first and then feed canned until the power returns?

During the winter, depending on the temperature, I would be tempted to wrap really well and place outside. Maybe held down with weights.
I'm fortunate in that my brother has a freezer, and a generator.
Good luck!

oh Canada~
Last year (before I was feeding raw), we had an ice storm that knocked power out for about 12 hours. Since we live in an apartment, we had the balcony at our disposal, and a cooler in the storage room. We were coming close to the point of taking stuff out of the freezer and fridge and just storing it outside and in the cooler outside. If you live in an area where you can secure your food stuffs away from outdoor animals, putting things that need cold storage out in a garage or right outside can keep them good and chilled longer than having them inside where you need heat (and may have things like gas fireplaces or candles going).

This would only be applicable for power outages that happen during cold winters though - especially if you don't have a cooler or something else insulated, summer outages would be a huge pain!

I live down in New Orleans and I have thought about this during hurricane season. It is not uncommon for us to lose power for a day (or few, depending when Entergy gets to your area!) after a bad storm. I buy in bulk from Hare Today so when my order arrives, I have about 16 weeks worth of cat food in my freezer and just cross my fingers that we don't lose power or have a hurricane this year!

I did buy and keep a few unopened bags of Stella and Chewy's freeze dried raw in my pantry in case the power does go out and all the food spoils after a few days. Luckily it didn't happen last year but I know sooner or later....

We do pretty much the same during winter power outages: refrigerated stuff in the garage, frozen stuff on the deck, leaving less perishable items (e.g. butter, vegetables) in the refrigerator. We had a turkey and two brand-new containers of RadCat thawing in the refrigerator when our power went out the night before Thanksgiving 2014. Eek. As @Abby2932, says, freeze-dried is really handy. I'm so glad that's what our cats like anyway!

If you don't have a deck or a garage but have the right kind of windows, you could do the Russian thing and hang a bag out the window. It works.

If you have a very cold and very full refrigerator and don't open it at all, it can stay cold enough for many hours. Even in summer. It helps a lot to have a refrigerator thermometer so you can know what you have when the power comes back. This was very useful to know one summer when we had constant thunderstorms!

Anyway, random thoughts as we, too, wait for the blizzard. I have a big January 31 deadline and am already strategizing how to work if the power goes out for an extended time! Good luck, @LTS3!

You must be in the same part of the country as I. Kind of excited about being snowed in tomorrow. I feed 100% raw, but I do keep cans in case of emergency. However, if I lose power tomorrow, I have my cooler that I take camping sitting on the back porch. I will simply transfer the cat food into the cooler. It will be cold enough outside to keep the meat frozen and wild animals can't open the cooler. We lost power for 3 days over Thanksgiving and that solution worked great.

I live in a building so no access to outside storage. I don't have an actual balcony, just a useless Juliette one that I'm tempted to hang a bag with raw food from
Normally, the building rule prohibits anything from being hung from balcony railings but maybe this one time would be ok ;)  There likely won't be anyone outside tomorrow anyways except for maybe peole walking their dogs. I do have cans and half a bag of Stella and Chewy's on hand just in case. Not looking forward to a horribly stinky litter box though
If the power does go out, hopefully I'd only have to feed canned for just Tuesday, maybe into Wednesday morning.

I live in an apt bldg, no outside storage; I was concerned about this storm and power outages, however, I don't keep more than one weeks worth of commercial raw in the freezer so if the power had gone out, I wouldn't have lost much. I always have FD raw in the cabinet, as well as canned.

Well, power is still on
The power outgages for the state was less than expected, mostly limited to the coastal areas
