She was feral her first three years of life. Then she became an indoor cat in a good home with lots of other cats and dogs for 3 more years. I adopted her one year ago. It's just her and I now. She is a sweet, clean, smart girl but, she is not at all interested in coming to sit with me ..I have to go to her and she will sit ALL day on her perch waiting for me to slap her butt..she loves that. She only plays now and then with the only 2 toys she likes..but then 2 minutes later she gets bored. I cannot have 2 pets here or I would get her a buddy. I think she is a cat interrupted. I feel such guilt all day and night because she has no interests and I feel I have tried everything, every toy. Could it be me and not her really being bored and lonely? I wonder if there are any others out there who are ultra sensitive to their pets

My cat was feral. Lived wild for 18 months, then went in and out for 5 more years. Now at 7 she mostly sleeps except from dawn to 10am she is active. She never did play much. She does not go out but still wants to. She sleeps with me at night. She is very sweet and very content.

Yours is a lot more catlike than mine. She won't sleep with me except once in a while on a far corner. I wish I knew if she was content. Thank you for sharing that.

Does she let you pick her up? I started picking her up when she greeted me and put my face next to hers and kissing her and she started purring. I put a space heater by my chair when I watch tv which encouraged her to sit on arm of chair and I would give her Purebites treats. She likes feeling the heat.

She absolutely hates being picked up!  She does however, love to be kissed all over when she is sitting or lying down and will even let me hug her, but she will not initiate anything. I had to stop the treat thing,,trying to persuade/teach her to come and be with me, because she gained 2 pounds. Maybe I have to just stop worrying. She's healthy in every other way.

Thank you for responding!

It think a lot of us are ultra-sensitive to our pets and can over-worry very easily.

All cats have their own personality and I think you've just described your cat's.  My cats get bored with playing very quickly and like to just 'hang around'. Honestly, she's probably very happy just being herself.

" It think a lot of us are ultra-sensitive to our pets and can over-worry very easily."  That statement really helps me. I know deep down I have to relax.. she has such a good life here. It also helps to know that not all cats are playful..esp. at 7 years old.

Your words have helped me a lot...THANK YOU!   also, I love your quote.
