My cat likes to eat cookies and cake, that's not something I choose to feed her, but when she gets the chance to eat a piece of she will. Is it something that I should avoid or it's perfectly normal for cats to eat sweet stuff like cake and cookies?

Cake, cookies, and other sweets should not be given to cats. Especially if they contain chocolate or xylitol (a common sweetner). Please keep your sweets in storage containers with secure lids and behind closed cabinet doors. If your cat begs when you are eating sweets, just ignore her and redirect her attention to a toy or a cat safe treat.

It's certainly not good for them, but a little bit of baked dough won't kill them. I wouldn't offer it or make it an option for the cat to get at any sugary treats, especially if they contain chocolate and even other things common in baking (gummies, nuts, sweeteners, etc.) that can be toxic. They'll start to see it as a habit or something they're allowed to have. Better and safer to practice good habits and clean up any plates with remnants of sweets and snacks to keep cats from getting into what they shouldn't and not offering them.
