Hello!
This is my first experience with a truly unsocialized cat. I am fostering a 1 to 2-year-old kitty through the fostering program in Oakland called cat town which is amazing! I had her in our bathroom for a few days and during this time she would let me pet her and she loved it (I mean purring drooling kneading, it was great). After a few days she bolted out of the bathroom so we decided to let her explore the rest of the apartment. It's been a week and since then she's been hiding under the bed whenever we are around, but at night she goes out and has a ball. She's eating well, I hear her scratching The carpet, i can tell she's all over the place (white fur shows up well...)
I almost feel like we should confine her back into the bathroom! Is that a terrible idea? She loved being petted so much....but i think she's forgotten all about that now. Sad. I know part of the answeris giving her lots and lots and lots more time. I like the idea of laying on the floor by the bed and reading to her. Any other tips?
Thanks!!!
sarit, and our new kitty, Vanessa

If your fostering is short term, it may be easier to get her more socialized in the bathroom.  Right now, she's getting used to the new space, so she will hide until she's comfortable.  That might be awhile, so it depends on how long you have.

If you have the time and your apartment is small enough, you can keep the status quo and try to sit near her when you can - read like you said or just do crafts or projects near her.  Try not to force her or corner her, as this will be frightening for her.

Thank you for helping her.  Foster parents rock!
