When I save the file, I cannot find it.  Where do I find it after 'save file" so I can then download it.  Thanks.

do you have a little downward pointing arrow in your web browser? if so, you can click on that downward pointing arrow and it will show your recent downloads. then click on the avast download.

or, the download could be sitting on your desktop screen.

or, if you can go to the windows icon in your taskbar, click on that to bring up the menu, then in the search bar at the bottom of the menu type in avast. that should bring up the program. not sure if avast would show up there, until you've run the avast installation on your computer.

edited to add:  if you go to the windows menu box and type in downloads in the search box, you'll bring up a list including "downloads". click on downloads and that opens up a window with a list of all that you've downloaded. the avast download would be on that list and you should be able to click on the avast listing to open up that download.

I did finally download it but now it won't stop running.  All I see is a circle which just keeps running, don't know how long this is supposed to run.  Will this still work even tho I am keeping Norton for the time being.

do you see a blue circle that's keeping running? or is the circle part of the window in which avast is installing -- i assume you're running avast's installation.

okay. i think i found the problem you're having.

here's a link to bright hub, the website where i found "What to Do If Avast Antivirus Won't Install" -- http://www.brighthub.com/computing/smb-security/articles/84317.aspx

here's an excerpt from the above -- "If Avast still won't install, make sure that there's no other antivirus program installed on your computer. If you have one already, do not install Avast because it's not recommended to use more than one antivirus program. If you prefer to use Avast as antivirus protection, you must remove existing antivirus software from other vendors before trying to install Avast."

I think that's pretty true for any virus protection program. They don't play nice with other protection programs and they all like to be the main one. Carol, remember the first time I installed Kaspersky and it took me about three weeks to figure out why I couldn't get on the internet with it?
Turns out it was because, even though I had uninstalled AVG from my computer (the right way, too), there were still a few snippet files leftover. And it wasn't until I found every little AVG file and killed them all that I could get online with Kaspersky.

You may have to delete Norton completely from your computer to get AVG to work properly. Sometimes it's the only thing that will work.

Thanks, mick. I didn't want you to think I was trying to interfere. I was just trying to agree with what you were already saying.

I do still have Norton, I think the new one is working properly, not sure tho.  It's funny tho, when I installed the new one, Norton popped up with an ok.

oh, no! i wouldn't think you'd be interfering.

well, that you're agreeing with what i was saying is a compliment to me! but really, i'm just pretty good at ferreting out info on the internet. until i located the info about avast, i didn't know that two antivirus programs might not do well together on one computer. i just never really thought about it. i use norton and have never found the need to consider adding any other antivirus software.
