Alternatives to animal digest?

I've been transitioning my 1-year-old to wet food for reasons I posted about here. She ate some yesterday, but not much and she was becoming lethargic. I remembered that I had some Forti-Flora in the cabinet and sprinkled a little bit over her breakfast. She couldn't get enough of it! She literally licked her bowl clean. I'm so relieved.

FortiFlora is expensive, though, and I was wondering if anyone's had success with alternatives that put out a strong odor cats like - either commercial or homemade?

Thanks,

Emile

What about freeze dried raw? My cat loves fish and loves the fish flavored ones crumbled over. You can also use canned food or tuna as a topper. I've also heard that Temptations treats are basically animal digest.

Oh, those are great suggestions. I've used freeze dried chicken bites in the past with her, and they kind of worked, but not as magically as the FortiFlora. It was like crack.

For the short term, I think I'll get a box of Fortiflora, as I just found a $5 rebate offer here. But I'll look into those other alternatives, thank you!

Freeze dried liver smells like anything. I used to joke about my kitty, "Who would think that such a beautiful face would eat such stinky stuff?"

Crushing dry food would work, can you can sometimes get sample packets for free in higher end pet stores.

Oh, great, I'll look into freeze dried liver. I already know that Zora likes Honest Kitchen because I tried a sample.

An update - thanks again, Raintyger. Both my cats took to the freeze dried liver bites as much as they did the Fortiflora. It was literally Zora's first taste, and if I could draw, I'd animate her reaction like a Tex Avery cartoon. :-) She sniffed and she was reluctant. But then she ate a piece, and suddenly she was following me to the kitchen and meowing for her meal. I mashed it up and sprinkled a little, and she licked the bowl clean. So glad this transition is working so well. And as soon as I finish the bag of dry food, I'll get the other cat on wet food as well.

Great news, and thanks for the update!

I don't know what the Honest Kitchen brand is like, but I got Stewart's, which is a freeze-dried raw liver. It is easy to find this in bigger containers at Petsmart if you looked in the dog section. I did buy another brand once, though, figuring what could be the difference if it's only one ingredient, and my kitty refused the other brand.

Thanks, I'll look into Stewart's. And I'm sorry I confused things. I was referring to the Honest Kitchen raw food because I got a couple of samples and I was thinking of sprinkling a little powder over her meal because she went crazy over the smell. But that woul get expensive in the long term. I'm using the PureBites beef liver, and that's worked out so well, that I think I'll stick to that once the FortiFlora is completely gone.
