My 16 year old cat, has recently been going through different levels of this growth. Has anyone else ever seen this ? I have taken him to the vet and it is cancerous. .. He's still eating, drinking, and loving ... but it's not going to be very much longer. Was just wondering if maybe anyone else has seen this type of growth before. Thank you.

Oh, how sad :(

As long as he is still eating and not suffering, he's okay, but it will suddenly come to a point where everything changes and he won't be okay.

It almost happens overnight.

It's impossible to know how much time he has since we don't know what kind or how advanced it is. Your vet hasn't given a general time frame?

No, she hasn't given me any time frame. She just said that as long as he can eat,, drink, use the litter box and doesn't look like he is suffering then I can love on him and give him whatever he wants. Thanks you so much for responding. Touch time right now.

I can't tell from the photo--where is that growth?

EDIT:  I'm asking because a friend had a cat with a growth that looked a lot like your kitty's. It was on the top side of his head.  It, too, was cancerous, and her vet gave her very similar advice to what yours did.  My friend's kitty lasted several months, but the growth kept getting bigger, and eventually it got to the point that the kitty was clearly uncomfortable and she had to make the decision to let him go.

But in the meantime, he continued to eat, drink and seemed to be comfortable.

Thank you for responding! The growth is from the bottom part of his mouth, down under his chin. As of today, his tongue now rests outside of his mouth because the growth is so big around his mouth. Poor fella. He's starting to go lay in the other bedroom away from everyone.

Okay.  I couldn't really tell where it was from the photo.  Your poor guy.  You're doing the right thing--give him lots of love and attention, and I think you'll know when it's time.  My thoughts are with you.  It's always so tough to know what to do.

I think you probably already know that when a cat prefers to sleep alone/isolated rather than being social and around the family, they are not feeling well.

That, along with his tongue resting outside of his mouth, it is growing and advancing.

All you can do now is show him every ounce of love you have for him, and watch for him telling you he is ready to go, we never want to delay or allow suffering, in anticipation of the heartache we know we will have. It's inevitable, unfortunately.

You don't strike me as that type of cat owner, and we will all be here to support you through this time.

I’m so sorry.

I can't see any growth in the photo.

Ok…

Most cats prefer to sleep alone.

That's my golden, Peyton, with Fudgepop. They are buddies. I'm going to take Fudgepop in to the vet on Tuesday and have him put down. Tuesday will be two weeks since I last saw the vet and she wanted to follow up to see if the antibiotic shot she gave him helped with the infection in his mouth, or it continued to grow once the infection was gone. It has continued to grow. I don't want to see him like this anymore. Clearly, he still eats, but wants to be by himself when family time/meal time with the dog and other two cats is finished. Thank you for your support. I love this group.

I'm sorry--these decisions are so hard to make.  But it sounds like you are making the most loving and humane decision possible, given his condition.  You're both in my thoughts.

It takes alot of strength and selflessness to be able to make the decision in advance to take him in.

As much as I would like to be able to do this I don't think I would have the strength, and would have to do it spontaneously.

Your golden is lovely and will miss Fudgepop.

My Krissy cat had a buddy in her life too, my Great Dane Savannah, back then I didn't realize just how much she would miss her when her life ended, Krissy had known Savannah from day 1 of her life until she was 3.

She spent alot of time on Savannahs giant feather bed after she passed, so for a good 3 months after, I had to keep the bed down for Krissy to get comfort from.

I wish you the best, you're a great pet owner, and very glad we were able to offer some support.

Oh my, I have tried to do this once before and couldn't. But now I've reached the point where I couldn't forgive myself if I thought I'd waited a day too long..You all are wonderful. Thank you for your encouraging words and support.
