As I said elsewhere here my 5 yr old Holly has been sick. At a trip to a vet ER last Friday an US was done that showed mild pancreatitis, gastritis and colitis. When she ate (including when I got her home) she ate cans of 9 lives, Fancy Feast and Friskies that she's been living on since. They're not normally brands I would give my cats but a friend gave some to me and as long as Holly ate and kept it in her belly mama was happy. She's taking her last dose of medicine tonight. My question is has anyone had good experiences with cheap brands and these (mild) diseases? I'm steering away from dry. I hesitate to try other brands right now because I don't want her tummy upset. If I even wean off one slowly she may not like the new one then I'd have to try another.

My cat is 8 now, but about 2 1/2 years ago he had a bought with what showed up on u/s as colitis. He has fancy feast in his rotation. He had the flare when I tried him on Wellness Grain Free.  The only thing I found in the Wellness as an ingredient that was new to him was peas.  I have stuck with no food with peas and he has not had a flare since.

I tried them on Authority and Wilderness some time back. They snubbed them. Holly doesn't have diarrhea now but her stools are mushy and not formed. I'm hoping that becomes better soon.

Some of those Fancy Feast recipes are very plain, so that could be part of why she can stomach it. If she's doing well with that right now, you might want to let well enough alone until she's on more solid ground, then work in some plain canned food like Natural Balance Chicken and Pea, for example, and see how it goes.

It will get better.  I would have fed mine my plate if he would have eaten it.  When he was diagnosed he would not eat anything.  He has never eaten human food/tuna or cat treats.  After this I have tried all sorts of treats to find ones he loves so if he ever gets sick again I can tempt him with something. The vet game me Science Diet Sensitive Stomach.  He would not touch that. I have one food that is not in his rotation, but it is the only thing he loves.  It is not a good food for him, but it is my go to food if I ever notice him skip a meal. It is a fish based food. Never fails for him to eat it.

I would rather have him eat a not so great food that nothing.

My cats liked Authority the first time and would not eat it after that.  Mine like the Pride, by Instinct, Nutro Naturals, and Tiki Cat. They are all different.  The one that had the flare is the pickiest.  The younger ones would eat about anything except Science Diet.

Jannike suffered from a bout of colitis about 2-years ago. The only thing that got her over it was putting her on Wellness Complete Health Chicken Formula Canned Cat Food. She can also tolerate any of the Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Poultry & Beef Feast/Turkey Feast/Chicken Feast/Beef Feast. I promise it will get better.

I got her a can of 9 lives veal and she devoured it. Didn't leave one piece behind. I got her some turkey in 9 lives too.

I haven't checked in in a while. Holly is doing great. I don't like the vet I took her to for her follow up so I'm taking her elsewhere this month.

my ragdoll jack is 6. he had some light vomit and wouldnt eat. he had been on purina dry and friskies wet since a kitten. 3 weeks ago we had blood test an xrays. blood wk is perfect. during xray he exploded lots of green diarreah while relaxed in twilight anesthesia. it cleaned out his small intestine. xry showed gas. and a slightly thickened wall. vet said he really thought it was something he ate. they had to shampoo him as nd left him wet hours in kennel came home with uri 10 days but he ate really good anything i put down. then after uri he got really picky again. hardly touching sny indoor wet food. i read all about how many animals getting sick since purina has food made in china plant where they have no inspections and codes. purina just sells it now. they have been asked to turn over their ingredients for review and refuse. I DECIDED DO MANY CAT OWNERS SAYING CATS GETTING INTESTINAL ISSUES WITH NEW RECIPE AND DYING I WOULD CHANGE. here is the show stopper. i have given him can tuna alot. vet said to stop that he thought jack was suspicious of me offering all kinda of foods. well i got the blue spa grain free this morning put wet food down. he licked it a little and laid down. left it 3 hrs no eating. then after the 3rd flavor offered i gave him 1/3 can tuna he ate it all. am i being played? vet thinks so or is tuna just to inviting. what do i do now? I AM STILL WORRIED ABOUT IBD AND SCARES ME AS HE LOST 2 OZ IN OVER A WEEK HARDLY EATING. WE R GOING TO WEIGH HIM 2 WEEKS. ANYONE THINK HES SMART OR SICK

Whatever you do don't feed him canned tuna. The tuna in people tuna is formulated for humans and has way more salt in it than cat food tuna. Since he likes tuna try Friskies chicken and tuna or ocean whitefish and tuna. Mandie is picky but will eat those two. I've heard of people's cats lasting to eighteen or twenty years on Friskies and Fancy Feast. They won't touch other brands like Authority or Wilderness. Going with so called healthy brands isn't going to do any good if your cat won't eat it.

WHAT SHOULD i GET, I AM SO CONFUSED. I do not want to hurt him, he just nibbles at his food, not really eating much at all. but plays, and seems ok.

I felt the same after Cocoa died. When Holly got sick all she'd eat was 9lives, Fancy Feast and Friskies. They wouldn't have been my choices to give her on a regular basis last year but her tummy seems to be doing better. You need to get something in him. Cheap food is better than nothing. Try a few different types to see what he'll eat. Cats get very sick when they don't eat.

going back to petsmart tomorrow., and just try some thing a rep from blue spa told me that wet food was mostly water, and icould just put it down not have to take days to work it in, but the dry food would have to slowly be integrated.  i am still afraid its the wheat, glutens, that hurt him, so scared of purina now since dec they have it made in a china plant with no regulartions and have 8 compliant charges in the process, one being temperature they cook the food, etc.  I keep having a guilt feeling, i am hurting him with what I feed him,  he just doesn]t take to the blue spa at all, and he quit eating the canned and dry purina he grew up on...will get back to petsmart tomorrow and tell them this is not working for him...Lord help me this is awful.

Pro Plan is about the lowest in carbs as far as dry foods go. All canned I've checked out including what I give Holly are around 5%. PP is around 22%. All canned will be very low. If you want wheat free try Fancy Feast pates. Read the labels though.

When my cats had diarrah I didn't know what to do they wete sick and wouldn't eat. So i made some rice and they woukdn't eat that. So I put tuna in it. I know they saay give the kids rice for diahra so I feed this to my cats. They ate it rice and all. Then they wanted more. My Tiggar became addidt to tuna. He want it everyday and can food too. So much I say he would not come when I callwd his name or to.kitry kitty. But if i say tuna tuna for cats he'd come streight home.

Fancy Feast ocean whitefish and tuna and Friskies in the same flavor are pretty strong smelling. The first one saved my Tiki's life. Her sister died in early 2000's. Tiki was very depressed and stopped eating. A vet recommended that one because it was aromatic and nutritious. She began eating again and lasted a long time. She passed at 16 in 2009.
