My cat, abyssinian, male, 4 years old, solo cat in the house, seems to have skin problems.
Does this seem to be from excessive glooming? He had very light scars on his belly from glooming once but not on this side. That ones got healed quickly. Ive also never seen any scars or hair loss on this side so i am concerned.

I have been working a lot so i wonder if he's lonely and glooming too much, or could it be something else like insect bites or other? I would like to take him to a vet but if you might have an idea of what it could be keanwhile, i would appreciate to hear.

I would like to also know if it's an immediate vet seeing needed situation or if i could see if it gets better as my work is less busy this week and i can spend more time with him. He goes crazy in the car so i am hesitant to take him to a vet and i might consider a house visit vet as well.

Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.

There's a few things that could be causing this. It could be a food allergy, stress, fleas or a number of other things. You could try putting him on a food which contains a fair amount of fish. The oils are good for skin and fur.

It almost looks like there are tiny bumps or scabs there, but it's hard to tell in the pictures.  If there are, then it could definitely be insect bites, possibly flea?  Have you noticed any evidence of fleas?  Has he ever had them and shown evidence of allergic reaction to them?

Personally, I wouldn't think this is an urgent situation, so if you want to see if it's stress related due to your long hours, you could probably do that.  Spend extra play time with him this week and see how it goes.  As to increasing the amount of fish you feed him.....I'm not so sure I agree with that, but I DO agree that adding salmon oil or krill oil or some sort of an omega 3 oil is not a bad idea.  Omega 3's are great for their skin and coats.

That's why I suggested an increase in fish related food. They contain higher amounts of oils and fatty acids...

we've battled that for years with Mikki... let me know what you find out! We've done the food elimination thing...but maybe not as long as we should have ... we only went 2 months. Problem is they seem to appear as a little scab then she goes after it and keeps licking it and it can get pretty nasty. We would put anti itch cream on it to calm it...as well as..it was bitter so if she stayed away from it. We just switched up our plan and tried neosporin and oddly enough the spots are healing better...even though she can still go after the spots..she doesn't seem to so maybe she's healing from the inside out...who knows. The other thing we did was hubby picked up an oil from the pet store for skin and fur that you put on the scruff of her neck... maybe that's helping too. I also started her on Zyrtec..so that could be warding off allergies too... we'll do process of elimination of these things if she heals.. to hopefully pinpoint which thing worked ha
