My cat, Stella, is acting very loving, sleeping a lot, and being a limp noodle when I pick her up, which is all very weird for her. She also feels kind of skinny, and her coat looks a little weird and greasy in a few spots instead of healthy and flowy. I'm not sure if she is sick or not.. I just brought two of my other cats in a couple days ago so I could worm all of them, she was wormed the day before yesterday. Is the way she's acting and her coat is looking weird from having worms? Or from being wormed? Or could she have a gotten a sickness from the other cats? If so what do I need to watch for? I'm just worried because she is always so playful and active and now she is just lying around and her coat no longer looks healthy.

You should call your vet, describe her behavior, and ask if they think she needs to be seen or if they think it is from the dewormer. My understanding is that sie effects from a dewormer are EXTREMELY rare, and therefore unlikely, but I am not a vet.   I personally would take her to a vet since total lethargy and disinterest in play is a warning sign, especially in cats that are young and active.

Is she eating and using the litterbox as normal?

She is eating and drinking normally, and using the litter box normally too. She does not have diarrhea or anything like that either. Just tired and her coat looks unkempt. I'm thinking she might be skinny because the two other cats were hogging the food. tulosai tulosai

The coat being unkempt is a sign that she's not grooming herself enough. That seems to fall in line with the rest of her symptoms: the lethargy, disinterest in play, being limp, etc. I would definitely take her to the vet. My brother's cat was acting that way, had a very greasy coat, and became super skinny and obsessed with food and was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. You never know. Being lethargic may be from parasites, but all those symptoms together sound like something worth checking out. Good luck with your sweet kitty!

Thank you. If she hasn't improved by tomorrow then I will take her to the vet. I read that hyperthyroidism mostly affects older cats, and she's only 8 months old, but I guess you never know. Thanks for your advice. manemelissa manemelissa

No problem! Yes, at 8 months, it's unlikely that she's got a thyroid issue. Let us know how things go! <3

I posted a few hours ago about my cat, Stella, being sick. This morning she was fine and now she is extremely tired, even lethargic maybe? Her coat is greasy, her breathing is rapid then slows down to normal and speeds up again, she feels rather skinny, and she is just all together not being herself. I'm unsure now if she is eating and using the litter box properly, because she has only been sick for about half the day. I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow but right now I am so worried that I can't sleep, so I was hoping some of you might have an idea as to what's going on??

I know very little about cats (I'm a newbie) so I'm not much of a help but: is it possible that she got herself near any toxic stuff, like aspirins or ibuprofen or any of that? I don't know if she got very ill very rapidly (like half a day as you say) or if she was already ill but simply not showing it as animals often do.

Anyway, make sure she didn't get herself into anything toxic, and no matter what happened I'd take her to the vet ASAP as it might be too serious to wait for tomorrow...

Definitely get her to the vet as soon as possible. She does not sound well at all.

The breathing problems really concern me. Let us know how it goes at the vet. Hang in there!

I agree, vet time immediately. Call the vets office first, stress the urgency of the matter.
Keep us posted.

She had an upper respiratory infection and a fever, they gave her a shot and some medicine to take for ten days and she should be good to go! I'm so glad it wasn't anything too serious :) ritz ritz manemelissa manemelissa
