My neighbor has 2 small chiwahwahs (spelling is incorrect, I know).  The family left to go to Miami, FL from Tampa, FL on a Friday @7:30 pm and returned @ 8:30 pm on Monday!  The dogs were left alone, no human contact, no moving air, no windows to look out of.  I was told they had plenty of food & water, and they can urinate & have their Bm,s on newspapers laid on the bathroom floor!

Me being an animal lover, I called the owner & asked when they were coming home, which was on the Monday !  They said the dogs were fine!  The next day,  I asked him how the dogs were, and he blew up & got out of control and told me to mind my own business.  I also reported it to our management office, for which I was told it was not any of my business & I should not have gotten involved!

I wrote this because I am a firm believer, that I am the voice for all animals!  They can't talk!  I am sure they felt abandoned!  I know I would if my parents left me for those 3 1/2 days!

I would love to hear other opinions on what I have experienced!

Gosh.  I know I would never do that with my dogs.  Or my cats.  I have only had larger dogs (when I was younger and living at home) but we never left them alone more than a work day's worth of time.  We have boarded the dogs but mostly had house sitters (my parents still have a few people they use regularly who actually stay there with their dog).

I'm not sure what else you can do.  If they haven't broken the law there isn't much beyond talking to them.  it sounds like they are already on the defensive about this; so I don't know what good that will do at this point either.  I'm afraid there is no good, easy answer here.

That's unfortunate. I even drop my dogs off at my parents house when I'm working (part time only 2 days a week) so they won't be alone. I guess my babies are a bit spoiled. I agree with Mooch, it sounds like there isn't anything else you can do. Poor pups.

Dogs no, this is wrong and the Animal Control Officer should be notified one Day 1 when they leave.  ACO will get in and remove the dogs.  Owner will have to pay a fine to get them back. Condo / Apartment management have no say in this.

Cats can be left a few days, IMO.  Not exactly as you describe these dogs being left.  My cats can roam the house, look out the windows, etc.  I generally have toys I keep in a closet which only come out if I am traveling over night.  And I also apply catnip to their trees before I leave.

Thank you for replying,  I am just so very happy that I am not the only one that felt for these 2 dogs!

Thank you for your response!  I live in Hillsborough County in Tampa, FL.  The Animal Control System in this County basically, never wants to be bothered!!! Unless a child is being ripped apart by Pitbulls!  They are under Lack of Personnel,  not open on the weekends, and they consider pets as Property! and again, Can't & Won't Get Involved!
