Hi!

I have a seven-year-old Korat from North Carolina, but I recently moved her to Florida. She was always in perfect health before moving here, but as soon as she got to FL, she's been very sick. She's constantly sneezing and coughing up mucus. Her breathing sometimes sounds labored, but she's never stopped eating and her litter box looks normal.

I've now been to the vet about ten times since moving her here. They continue to tell me that she's probably suffering from allergies. At first the medicine they perscribed her knocked it out, but now it only makes it better. Please help! My vet is charging me $90 to see my cat every time I come and I really need my kitty to feel better. Do you guys know of anything I can do for her??

Thank you!!

WHAT did they prescribe for her?  Was it simply benedrylor Zyrtec...something like that?  Many cats DO have allergies which cause sneezing and coughing, just like humans, and just like humans, depending on where they live CAN make a difference.

Have you been in Florida for several seasons now?  Have you noticed whether or not her symptoms are worse during certain seasons?  If so, it could certainly be allergies.  Do you leave windows open, let her outside, that type of thing?  What has the Vet said about the fact that the meds used to completely relieve her symptoms and now they only "make it better" (but I'm guessing do not give her complete relief)?  Do they not offer any advice as to things you can try to help her?  Do they have any thoughts as to WHAT she might be allergic too...flowers, plants, Florida dust, etc?  The only thing I can advise is to keep all the windows closed and keep your place really clean of any dust, etc.

Maybe others who have allergic cats will pipe in soon.
