What litter works best when using the Litter Robot?

Hello everyone. First of all, I would like to apologize for my possible grammar mistakes since I am not a English speaker. My question here is what litter works best for Litter Robot? I have tried Arm&Hammer, but it would become sticky when cats urine. It would stick on the inside walls of the Litter Robot and hard to get it off. Then I switched to The World's Best. But I don't feel right with it, either. The dusts look larger comparing with common litters, and they would attach on the cat's body when he finishes. My cat would travel around with his back attaching dozens of dusts. Every time he jumps or runs, dusts would separate from his back and drop on the place he stand. Sometimes I can find hundreds of dust on my bed. I am really exhausted when seeing so many litter dusts all around my house. Anyone has the experience of using Litter Robot please help me out! Thanks a lot.

I have not had a Litter Robot but I've had 2 LitterMaid boxes.  My experience was that you need a good clumping litter and to be careful of how much you put in.  The LitterMaid has a line on it so you don't fill the tray too full or let it get too low.  Does the :Litter Robot have something like that?

We use just the standard Tidy Cat clumping.  I wanted to find something less dusty after we switched back to standard litter boxes; but my one cat is finicky about litter changes.

By "dusts" do you mean pieces of the litter itself?  Does your kitty dig a lot after he finishes?  I'm not sure how to help with that.  One of my 2 digs a lot and I'm always sweeping litter up in the room where the boxes are. They also track the litter out into the hallway with their feet.

have used that for a couple of years, no issues. do make sure you keep the machine leveled with litter. i have one cat using it, and i change it 1-2x a week. if it gets low on litter, you run the risk of litter sticking to the machine.

Thank you for replying me, and sorry that I did not make my words clear. When I mentioned "dust", I meant the litter itself, yes. And the litter would stick on my cat's body is because the Litter Robot is round, and once the litter is stick on the ceiling, when cat gets in there it would attach on his back.

Thanks for replying me. I'm not sure if I get your word correctly. Are you currently using the litter you mentioned in Litter Robot and it works well? If so, I might switch to that, too. Thanks for your recommendation.

If you are talking to me, then yes i have had a litter robot for two years, and have used the same litter with great results.

Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Cat Litter

I love it, but i just dont like that its clay based, ive been reading online that clay litters are not the best healthwise.

Hi:

The Litter-Robot will also work with either crystals or Litter-Pearls.  If you decide to try either one, please check to make certain they are small enough to pass through the sifting screen in the globe.

They absorb the liquid and only the waste is deposited into the bag in the waste drawer.  How often they need to be changed depends upon usage.

We have a product called Null Odor, which might be of interest.

The Null Odor cat litter with health indicator is coated with pH indicators that can help detect different health problems.  This litter is meant as an early detection to make cat owners aware there may be a problem, it is not a diagnostic. The different detections can help detect potential issues such as blood in the urine, low or high pH which may indicate bladder infection, crystals, or stones, protein, bilirubin, liver, and some kidney diseases. Please note, that neither us, nor the manufacturer, says that this is a definitive test to determine your cat’s health. It is only a means to detect potential problems.

Check it out on the Accessories Page of our website at www.litter-robot.com.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Shirley

WOW, I did not expect I could actually get an answer from THE LITTER-ROBOT! Your team is fantastic! Thanks and I will go check your website.

BTW, I feel Litter-Robot is a little bit small for adult cats. I have three domestic short-hair cats, and their average weight is about 11 lbs. They loved Litter Robot when they were young, but their interests have recently been reduced and they don't get in Litter Robot that frequent. I have set up another regular litter box at home, and they prefer going to that one now. I guess it is because the space inside of Litter-Robot is too tiny for them. Maybe you guys can consider to create a larger one...Ha-ha. Maybe at that time I will buy the new one. Anyway, looking forward to seeing your progress in making better cat products!

Hi:

We/I am so pleased that we could help.

Since I do not know your name, I cannot check to see which version unit you have.  If your globe does not have a clear bubble on the back of it, we do have one available.  FYI - the clear bubble adds three inches in the bubble.  Their weight of 11 lbs. should, however,  work in the standard version.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you ever need assistance.  We can also be reached at [email protected].

Take care and thank you for your note.

Kind regards,

Shirley

I agree with dangotkmn, my cat is 12 lbs, and though she is able to use it by her weight. Since she is a big cat, its a tight fit inside the globe. There is not much room for her to manuever around. She has to get completely out of the globe and stick inside her upper body to cover her pee/poo. I have the litter robot II, with the window. My cat she LOVES her litter robot, but it would be so awesome if the inside was a bit roomier. =)

Yes, I did bought the version with the bubble, but it still looks tiny inside. Maybe that is because my cats are a little overweight :-(

I just checked the Nullodor you were talking about, and found nowhere to buy except your website. And there are only 6-LB-bags on your web page. 6 LBs are definitely not enough for three cats, so I was thinking to try others. Do you know if the brand 8in1 One Earth Clumping Corn Cobb Cat Litter can be used for Litter-Robot? It has a lot of favorable comments, but I'm just not sure if its size is too large for Litter-Robot to pass through.

Thank you for your help!

Yeah, definitely. My cats have the same issue. I feel they have difficulties to turn around inside the Litter-Robot and get out. However, I now do need to spare 1/4 of a room to leave the space for Litter-Robot. If it gets larger, maybe there won't be enough space for it... Finding a perfect litter product is always torturing lol.

Hi:

Thank you both for your input and, quite honestly, we have been getting requests for a larger Litter-Robot.

We will make note of your comments.

Take care and have a good evening.

Shirley

Hi:

As you can imagine, there are so many litters available that we are unable to try them all.

This appears to be a lightweight litter and although some customers have had success using the lightweight clumping litter in their Litter-Robot, we would recommend sticking with a standard clay clumping litter.  We have found that the lightweight litter does not clump as quickly as the standard clay clumping litter, while giving off more dust during the cycling of the unit.  You may also find excess moisture build up to cause a mess within the sifting screen of the globe.

Our initial opinion is that this litter will not work properly in the Litter-Robot.

As far as litter is concerned, clumping clay litter is recommended.  We also have litter available on the Accessories Page of our website, which our customers are using with success.  They also use Precious Cat Litter, Arm and Hammer, and Tidy Cat.

Hope this helps.

Take care,

Shirley

I had found a number of questions answered on a Litter Robot forum a couple of years ago when I bought my first Litter Robot. They all raved about Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat litter. They have mainly three types. An odorless for people with allergens, a regular one and an herbal based one that gets rave reviews.

I like this brand, but ssome people like the new Arm and Hammer clumping.

Thanks for replying me, Lawman561. I have changed to the Precious litter since terestrife told me that it was great. I find it does work good, except one thing: the bag is too easy to be teared. There is no extra handy part of it, which I think is stupid, I have to drag 40-pound-bag through my room. It takes quite a work. Others are just great. Besides, I have tried Arm&Hammer before. Not good. Too sticky after cats urine.

I don't have a Litter Robot (in a perfect world I'd have one for each cat.
) but I HATE the bag that the Dr. Elsey's litter comes in so I know what you mean. What I do is I had a couple of empty jugs left from other litters and I saved them. When I get the Dr. Elsey's, I split the bag between 2 empty 20 pound plastic jugs and then it's a lot easier to pour into the boxes and lug between boxes. I was having to leave the bag in a closet with the door closed because the cats would swat at the bag and it would spill and/or tear and then spill. That was so annoying. I'd love to have a Litter Robot or three.

Edited to add- if you don't have any empty plastic jugs from different litters, maybe ask a friend with a cat to save you one or two. Even if you can only get one, you can dump half the bag into that and add more as you use it.
