Happy Monday everyone!  And happy Martin Luther King Jr Day to those of us in the US!  I'm a little envious of those who get today off of work/school as a holiday.  I was just thinking how the grocery store will be more packed when I go out for milk later.  I plan to include a little talk about Martin Luther King Jr into our school time today.  I'm not giving the kids today as a holiday because we've got plans for this week.  My 5 year old is getting her first big haircut.  Her hair is past her waist and she is getting tired of having it all brushed.  So we are going for a big cut!  I hope she doesn't panic because she is the one who asked for the haircut!

Have you ever been admitted into the hospital?

The only times I have been truly admitted were for the births of my children and once when I was very young and I became dehydrated from a bad virus.  I don't remember that at all.  I was small enough that my mother says I laid there watching some helium filled balloons my Grandmother had brought and tied to my bed.  I was almost admitted a few days before my son was born.  I was 38 weeks pregnant and determined he would stay in till I'd gotten through my weekend plans (a funeral and a friend's baby shower) but my blood pressure was creeping up and I'd become a bit dehydrated.  I was so determined not to stay that I didn't even tell my husband or my mother where I was till after I left!  That was a Friday.  Monday night I was back and in labor.  What a good baby I had; waiting till I got through my weekend plus one more night to sleep!

I have been seen in the ER a couple times; but I don't consider those admissions like overnight stays.  We have several walk-in emergency care clinics that we can use when we need to be seen soon; but can't get in to our regular doctors or need more testing than they can do in the office.  I used one of them last summer when I broke my toe.  I was in and out in less than 2 hours I think.  They are a huge help!

I was admitted to the hospital in 2012 at 28 weeks pregnant. I was in a car accident and while they were monitoring the baby, they discovered I had severe preeclampsia. I was given steroid shots for her lungs and sent off to a bigger hospital that deals with babies born early. 10 days later, after a few ultrasounds, a ton of blood work and monitoring, they decided it was time to get baby out and I had a c-section. Aimee was born weighing 2 lbs 2 oz. She spent 62 days in the hospital. I spent a total of 14 days.

I was also admitted 3 months ago at 38 weeks pregnant because my blood pressure started to climb and I was induced with Hudson before it got bad and turned into preeclampsia again. I was induced starting around 8 am on a Friday, he was born at 9:35 pm and we went home at 11 am on Sunday.

Yep.

At age 9 after falling out of a tree and knocking myself unconscious.

At age 12 for falling off a horse and breaking my collar bone.

At age 18, while travelling in India, for suspected dengue fever. (Turned out to be something less serious)

At age 19 for being knocked off my motorbike (Needed 6 stitches to a gash in my leg)

At age 20 for being thrown from another, much bigger horse and knocking myself unconscious.

Apart from the 3 days in the Indian hospital all were just over night stays to make sure my concussion wasn't too bad.

Hopefully that's enough for one life time.

Oh, I forgot one!

Two days in hospital for a lung infection when I was about 22. Turned out to be pleurisy! How Charles Dickens is that?

oh Canada~
Never been admitted, and have even only visited the hospital three or four times (not counting the 3 times I drove to a hospital to drop off/pick up my brother and dad for a day surgery). I thought I would be admitted for my wisdom teeth, as was the norm in my hometown, but the oral surgeon just did it in his little office.

As a child for tonsilitis and 2 years later to have my tonsils out.

As an adult 3 times having each of my children.  Once to have my gallbladder taken out.  Unfortunately it was the year before they started using the laproscope so it was 5 days with the large incision.

I was admitted for delivering both my kids. And once overnight when I was 12 because I got a very bad electrical shock that happened at the hospital as I was visiting my sick grandma.

Not sure of ages, but here goes:

16 - gave birth to our son

19 - had my tubes tied (it was pretty much in-and-out)

24 - complete hysterectomy

49 (I think, not sure) - gall bladder removal (in-and-out)

55 (I think, not sure) - knee surgery (in-and-out)

Still have my tonsils, still have my appendix....and I hope I can keep them!

I couldn't imagine 5 days and a large incision for a gallbladder removal. I had mine out in 2013 and have 4 small scars from it. I didn't count that in my post since it was just in and out. I woke up in recovery and went home a couple hours later.

In the grand scheme of things, at least none of these have been major but, certainly intrusive to life!

1. Broken nose, due to friend stepping on my face in a "Moon Walk" (one of those bouncy things at fairs you jump around in).

2. Fix broken nose a few years later lol.

3. 3 arthroscopic knee surgeries (2 on right, one on left)

4. Laproscopic gallbladder removal

I think that's all I've ever been actually in the hospital for.  Some other emergency room visits for things like twisted ankles but was in and out in a matter of hours.

Three times in my life, 2 for child birth, once when I was twenty one and had 105 degree temp and lower right side abdominal pain, white blood cell count sky high. Sounds like appendicitis, right? Wrong, part of my intestine was 'dead', they cut it out and left me with a 4 inch scar. Took my appendix out too, but I am glad, they said if they didn't and more of my intestine died they would diagnose appendicitis again and it may endanger me. Thought to be Crohn's disease, nothing in 38 years!

At age 1 or 1 1/2  I guess. I had just started eating solids and got salmonella from undercooked grilled chicken. I almost died so I'm told. Almost doesn't count.

I had my DD when I was 25. In and out. I was there less than 24 hours.

I had pleurisy when I was about 12! I didn't stay in the hospital, though, just an ER visit, and I don't remember what meds they gave me or anything. Just that it hurt a lot and I got a chest x-ray.

I have never stayed in a hospital overnight. Except when I was born, I guess---they gave women with normal births 3 days in the hospital back then.

Never been admitted to hospital for anything major (touch wood). I've had a couple of colonoscopies, but that only took a few hours, so not really an "admission".
