I went to Staples this morning to get ink for my HP printer. They have a deal right now that if you buy $75 worth of ink, you save $15. So I bought two complete packages of ink for my printer: all three colors and then the black. Price was well over $100 to get two packages. But I also had a 20% coupon off on HP ink that I received in the mail, plus a $10 coupon off anything over $50 that I received via email for signing up with Staples, plus a $20 Staples Rewards cash-back coupon that I received via email.

The bottom line is that I got two packages of printer ink, each containing Black XL, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow for less than the price of one package!

Plus, I took 8 empty ink cartridges with me to turn in, so when they do the next Staples Rewards thing, I'll be getting $16 back in Rewards. That will help with ink again.

Printer ink is just ridiculously expensive. And my HP printer goes through all kinds of motions every time I want to print something; it's just ridiculous how much ink is wasted in that printer. So any time I can get a great deal, I'm happy.

That's a terrific deal! The price of ink cartridges is crazy. When I was still teaching I used to print a lot, and the one ink jet printer I bought was replaced with another laser printer pretty quickly due to the price of refills.

Whew good deal!!

The majority of my DD's schoolwork is printed out.  I try to save ink and print in black and white or grayscale whenever possible since black ink is far cheaper!  Fortunately I've had good luck with Cannon printers and their ink is a little more reasonable.  I hate that i print so much right now; but a good portion of it is getting laminated so I won't have to re-do this when my son starts preschool.  A lot of her work is learning through games or write on, wipe off things.

Good deal!!

I stopped buying ink for my Kodak printer from Walmart and the like. I found simplyink.com. Their ink is much cheaper and works just as well. They offer free shipping for orders over $55

My old HP printer is wonderful and the ink seems to last forever in that thing. It's an old (very old, actually) HP 1220C that's hooked-up to Rick's Vista computer. I use it whenever I can. Mine is an HP D7560 and it's an ink hog. I try not to use it, simply because it wastes so much ink.

Barbara, I was surprised. I had gotten the 20% off HP ink in the mail, so knew I could that one with my Staples Rewards. The clerk even said he didn't think I could use my $10 coupon in addition to the 20% off coupon. But then everything went through and he said, "Hey, give me that coupon and we'll try it." And it worked! I was a happy camper!

I always take my old cartridges to Staples; they give you $2 for every cartridge (in the form of a coupon for another purchase) and it adds up after a while. I think it used to be $3, but then they lowered the value. Still $2 is $2.

I'm still using those sites you told us about for coupons. The coupons really help cut down the grocery bill.

Yes coupons really do help. I cut a $1 coupon for Trop 50 Orange juice. When it went on sale for $3 for the bottle, I picked it up with my coupon and paid $2 for the bottle. I love deals.

The next time you are in the market for an inkjet printer, consider the cost of ink, and consider non-OEM brands. Some brands of printers make it hard to make non-OEM cartridges. Last I heard HP was one of the tougher ones. But if you get certain brands like Canon, it's much easier to obtain non-OEM cartridges. Non-OEM cartridges can be obtained on eBay for a fraction of the cost of OEM cartridges. We're talking $1-$2 a pop. When I bought my last printer I made sure vendors were readily selling non-OEM cartridges on eBay. Unless you're doing something like printing out high quality photos, you don't need OEM.

Winchester - you may want to look up if your cartridges are available on eBay. The older the HP printer, the more likely they are to be available there.

Thanks for the eBay heads-up.....will check it out! The 1220C is easily ten years old, probably even older, I think. Still runs like a dream.

That's a great deal!

My Canon printer is an ink hog and it seems like I am constantly buying cartridges.

I have a difficult time with our local Staples. All but one have closed in this area and the service when you go in is some of the worst I have ever experienced.
