Simply Nourish dry food -and- a question about wet food.

Hi there!

I have switched my cat to daily mix of wet and dry food. (Before then, his meals primarily consisted of dry food, and he was given wet food once in a while.)

I have noticed great changes since making the switch, but it is also a financial change. With that said, I was thinking of switching his dry food from Wellness: Indoor Health, Salmon to Simply Nourish: Indoor, Chicken & Oatmeal. How does Simply Nourish measure in comparison? Is it closer to Wellness' quality or is it closer to a lower quality brand?

Additionally, I will continue using Wellness, Blue: Healthy Gourmet, and Nulo canned food. (So, on that note: I read that it's okay to give my cat multiple brands of wet food without gradually transitioning. Is that correct? Is it okay that I have given him different brands of wet food from time to time?

Thank you so much for any and all help!

The Simply Nourish is a good quality, relatively inexpensive dry food....I personally like their "Source" line a little better (and it's the same price) because it's grain free and really high protein, lower carb. That's what I feed my three outside cats. I think it's pretty close to being as good as Wellness...especially given the price difference. And yes it's fine to rotate canned food brands/flavors without a transition period. It's also perfectly fine to include some of the lower priced brands like Fancy Feast Classic, Sheba, Great Choice Classic (Petsmart brand that is almost identical to Fancy Feast but a couple cents cheaper). Doing that should also help with the finances.

My cat loves Simply Nourish. He loves the wet Stews. He licks the dish clean. Never done that with any other wet.

I think Simply Nourish is a good dry food. I feed it mixed with another dry food of slightly better quality. I use their Source line though, so they're grain-free and higher protein and lower carb. I like Simply Nourish Source much more than the regular line. It's also quite good for the price.

Yes, it is okay to feed multiple wet cat foods. Lots of us feed wet foods in rotation, and I frequently mix them as well. I also think it's easier to compromise a bit with wet food because it's harder to go wrong with it - if specific ingredients aren't a big concern (sensitivities or allergies), I would sooner go for some cheap wet than cheap dry if money was running tight.

edit; I just realized @Zoocat and I said the exact same thing
not intentional!

I have a question. I'm moving my cats from PL wet food, Italian, to merrick wet with no cereals. Problem isb that here they only have 5 flavours and 3 are fish. What do I do!

Thank you all so much! I appreciate each and every response. I didn't know about their Source line, so thank you for the recommendations.

(Also, similar responses are good! [emoji]128516[/emoji] It shows a consensus!)

Hello again!

I have started the transition from Wellness to Simply Nourish, and I noticed that there is a lot of excess food powder in Simply Nourish's food. Should I be worried about that? I sifted a lot of it out which is a bit tedious, but I don't mind doing it because the price is reasonable and people have mentioned that it's a good quality dry food brand. But, again, I am a little concerned about the excessive food powder. Does anybody have any thoughts or words on this? Thank you!

Also: I'm sorry, @Stewball  - I don't know the answer, but I hope someone gets back to you! (I think it may be helpful to open up a new thread? People may see the subject and know how to help you better.)

@Littkekitty 1

Don't worry I have myself sorted out.

I once bought a packet of merrick dry
food and it was full of dust. It positively turned me off although they ate it. They didn't like the merrick wet food either.

I don't think she's looking for a cheap make. She's looking for the same quality food but at a lower price.

Be watchful with the Simply Nourish. I had my cats on the Simply Nourish Souce Grain Free Chicken and Fish. I am switching to canned because I think they were not getting enough fluids. They were abnormaly thirsty on this food. I also noticed a lot of what looked like salt at the bottom of the bag. Now that they are on only canned, they aren't as thirsty.

Hello!

As mentioned in a previous thread of mine, I have started to transition my cat from Wellness dry to Simply Nourish dry for financial reasons. Within this transition, I noticed that there is a lot of excess food powder/dust in Simply Nourish's food.

Additionally, with all of that said, I am looking for a quality dry food brand that is a lower price than Wellness (Simply Nourish sells for half the price!) So, since the food power/dust seems concerning, does anybody have any other dry food recommendations? (I understand that wet food is better, and I am incorporating wet food in his diet. So, at the moment, I simply need advice on the dry food portion of his day.)

Thank you!

I had problems with the Simply Nourish dry. I wanted to feed my feral cats something better then the Purina Cat Chow. They were eating it but I had 3 out of six cats that were having issues with swollen chins and acne on the chin. I couldn't figure out what was going on and fed it for a couple months but one cats chin got so bad and nasty looking. I then decided to try another cat food and all the kitties with chin issues cleared up.

They now eat Merrick dry and Friskies canned food and they all look good.

This was caused by the food. I do not use any plastic bowls and we had been trying several dry foods for a year and this food (only this food) caused problems with 3 cats at the same time. As soon as I took them off the food the problems with the chins disappeared. No more swelling and no more chin acne.

Not saying it's not a good food, we just had problems with it.

I don't feed dry food, so am not much help in offering up brands for you, however, maybe this article will help:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/choosing-the-right-dry-cat-food.  Maybe this one too:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/how-to-compare-cat-foods-calculate-carbs-dry-matter-basis

As to the powder, don't all dry foods have some powder in the bag?  I USED to feed dry, and seems like there was powder leftover.  Maybe the bag you got was at the bottom of a stack and got crushed or something?  (just guessing)
