My kitten is 6 weeks old and his fecal culture came back negative for parasites/worms. They gave him the deworming pill anyways but he's still having diarrhea. He's eating and drinking and playing normally but we have to clean his bum every time he poops cause it gets all over his bum with the litter. How can i fix this? Should i be feeding him something else? I use wellness brand wet food and i just bought kitten formula for him. I also put a little pedialyte in his water. Is there any other things that might help faster than others?

If he hasnt been dewormed earlier, its correct to deworm him. Even if he HAD been dewormed, a second time is wise to do as once if often not enough, even a thrice..  Almost all kittens has or may have round worms, they get them from mom.

If the kitten was flea ridden at some time, it may have tape worms too - as fleas are in-between host for tape worms. Otherwise tape worms are rare with small kittens.

OK, what to do against a non specific diarrhea.  Pedialyte you mentioned is good.  Even pedialyte instead of water!   A rather basic "home-made type" pedialyte is the big savior from the manslaughter cholera...  Alone bringing down the death rate from 80-90 down to perhaps 10%.

If nothing else, it gives extra electrolytes which he is loosing in diarrhea.   But apparently pedialyte is somewhat a stopper in itself.

Goat milk is always OK to give, and not least, in cases of sensitive stomach. Fresh is best, bottled ok.   So give this, if you think sensitive stomach is the cause.

You do live in USA?  Canned crushed pumpkin, the plain unsweetened type, is good, both for solving constipation, but in fact, also to controll diarrheas.

We dont have it in Sweden, but our American forumists often do recommend it.

And probiotics, are always useful here.  Especially if he got antibiotics or strong dewormers, but also, as an overall cure.  If you dont find good animal probiotics, human probiotics may do.  Even plain insweetened youghurt may do - especielly if it contains bifidus and acidophillus bacteria added.

I think it was the most important tips so far.

Welcome with reports and further questions!

Good luck!

My kitten did this at six weeks old too. She would poop small amounts but it would be diarreah. Everyone was telling me all the horrible things it could of been, when nothing was wrong with her. She started pooping normally a couple of weeks after and now she's still okay, never had a medical problem with her. So it may not be as extreme as some people are going to tell you. He will get better on his own!

That's what I'm thinking also. The vet said he's totally fine otherwise and it is small amounts also. I'm hoping it goes away on its own. Thanks for the help!!

Update : started giving him canned pumpkin last night and this morning... So far it's helping with the stools. They aren't fully solid but liquidy like they were. Yay! Does anyone know how long i should be giving him the pumpkin?

Keep with the pumpkin for a week and then go from there.

As a side note, your kitten may not be able to tolerate Wellness brand canned food. Have you tried other brands to see if that makes a difference? Just a thought :)

I have not. I thought the wet food might have been contributing to his diarrhea so i started back on dry food. I have an appointment for him with the vet on Monday morning for his 8 week shots so I'll see what the vet says/suggests for him :)
