I am going to head to the natural pet food store today and want some ideas on what to stock up on! I want them to be the healthiest possible. She has been trying BFF and Tiki Cat and appears to be a fan of both.

It's pretty slim pickings unfortunately, re: carrageenan-free foods. I've had my two cats mostly on NV's rabbit which they like, (they eat a combo of commercial raw and canned). They love Instinct's Pride but I give that sporadically b/c it has eggs, otherwise they love NV's Pride Diva Duck & Rockstar Rabbit.  Weruva's Truluxe Quirky Turkey was one they liked but it has chicken (allergies) and I can't feed that one any longer.  We tried Pure Vita's turkey and that was a major miss, they would not go near it. Good luck!

Do you feed your cats raw or freeze-dried raw? And are your cats allergic to eggs or are eggs bad for them? I am somewhat new to this grain-free carrageenan-free diet so I am not 100% sure on what is best to be feeding her.

Rivertherb:

No, eggs are not bad for cats, as far as I know; I've read it's a nutritious protein. It can only be a problem for cats who are allergic to chicken. My cats are allergic to chicken, diagnosed by a vet and I noticed similar symptoms when feeding food with eggs. You need not worry, I believe, about eggs in a grained free canned food, maybe others will chime in with different opinions.

We do mostly freeze dried and some frozen commercial raw, the only reason we haven't gone full frozen raw is b/c the female cat is holding us up, she'll only eat FD raw (Primal), adding water of course.

I think it's great you are looking for carrgeenan, grain-free canned foods, my little IBD kitty had horrible smelly stools when he was fed even a high end grain-free that contained carrageenan.  Soulistic is also a good carrageenan free food, I've read it's a bit low in calories though so you may need to feed more than you normally would in comparison to other grain free foods.

Check out the new Mauri canned food online. It is a grain, gluten, carrageenan, potato and peas free diet. MAURI uses Pumpkin for digestive support, New zealand green mussel for anti inflammatory joint support, and a little cranberry for urinary support.

Interesting thanks, it must be a new company?  I used to feed Ziwi Peak, when they used carrageenan and then when they removed the carrageenan. My cats itched like crazy, oddly, and I wonder if it was due to the fish / green mussels. I called the company and was told their green mussels were "clean" but if a cat has an allergy to fish, that wouldn't make a difference, I think. Mauri's brushtail is a big improvement over Addiction's brushtail - I bought a few cans and I could not believe the amount of potatoes in one can - one time I picked out close to 40 pieces of potatoes in one 6oz can, photographed it and sent it to the company. Mauri looks good, could try it occasionally, not crazy about the three gums they use. Thanks for the info though, much appreciated!

I noticed today that my local pet food retailer brought in Mauri and remembered your suggestion from this post - I bought the brushtail and the cats inhaled it!  The green mussels included are at the bottom of the list, so it's minimal, I'll monitor my cats for allergy symptoms.

Anyway, thanks again, despite the gums I decided to give it a try, we'll see how it goes.

Also contains 3 gums (Locust Bean Gum, Xanthan Gum, Guar Gum) which I've read is questionable ingredient.  Comments anyone?

I used Mauri for a very short time. My cats liked the brushtail (and the venison as well), however, that food is so gummy it practically stretches as you remove it from the can to the plate.
Their stools were really stinky on Mauri, I won't use it again.

Mauri is also using tetrasodium pyrophosphate, a flavor enhancer, in several of their formulas. I try to avoid any foods with this ingredient (and there are a few out there, including the high end Ziwi Peak), it can cause allergic reactions in humans - hives, and loose stools / nausea in some pets.
