Okay so as many nutrition buffs may remember we had problems gettting Lilly to stick to one type of wet food. We finally found one shes been happy to stick to its a supermarkets own brand but the protein percentages are just short of 20% In some of the varieties. And because it comes in a pack of 24 400g cans I can bulk buy yayyyy (This had been an issue for us before when we were using single serve trays @ 100g a tray. It's quite cost effective to at £10 a pack. This does us the month on 2 x 100g meals a day with a supplement of 2 x 50g of kibble. We simply mix in the kibble as 3 x 100g wet meals seems to make her very lazy and smelly but the kibble helps with her tartar build up and helps stave her off as 2 x 100g wet meals she just meows constantly for more food.

Question though the current kibble we use she only likes when its mixed in with her wet meals what are peoples opinions on this?

I add a bit extra water to the dish as I know the kibble could suck the moisture out the wet food

Look forward to you're opinions but please don't bash me for feeding dry it won't change my opinion.

No judgement here , I feed my cats 1 meal of kibble  & 2 wet  .. However they will not eat kibble mixed with wet . I do add extra water to the wet food before serving .

I serve kibble in the morning and wet food for lunch and dinner .. I do not see anything wrong with mixing the kibble with the wet if that is what your cat likes . Just don't let it sit out too long ..

It never sits for she normally scarfs it down. I was just wondering if its common practice to mix the kibble in with the wet? Also does 4oz wet twice a day with 2oz of dry mixed in twice a day sound lik enough for a 2 year old female. Shes spayed and quite active normally though has been a bit lethargic over the winter.

Excellent , well it is hard to say what the right amount should be . All cats are different . If she does good on that amount , not gaining or losing weight I would say it is fine ..

Doesn't normally gain but because we've had a very cold winter she's gotten into the habit of snoozing on the radiators and only being extremely active every 2-3 days or so by extremely active I mean as hyper as a 3 year old strung out on e numbers and blue smarties.the rest of the time she slinks about jumps here jumps their snoozes and hides.

There should be no judgment for what you feed your cat - all cats are different and have different needs, and lots of us still do include kibble in our cats' diets in one way or another. Since you mentioned tartar, it might be worth noting that food has little impact on dental health and what would be more beneficial to her dental health would be to get her comfortable with getting her teeth brushed. Food often doesn't rub hard or closely enough near the gums to get any tartar off - especially when it's been moistened and gets mushier, but a toothbrush gives you more control and cat toothpastes are pretty appealing to some cats. They have malt or meat flavours, but the one I use smells almost faintly vanilla and my cat loves it.

If she's eating the kibble right away, I don't see any issue with that. Some people use kibble as a topper on kibble to entice cats to eat it anyway, so as long as it's not sitting out and festering (especially when it gets warmer and bacteria can grow faster), there shouldn't be a problem.
