Hello!

I've done some research on this online, but haven't found much. My 6 month old girl just got spayed two days ago. The first day after, she was pretty calm/tired from the day before. Today, though, she has been completely out of control hyper. Running around like crazy, up the stairs, on counters, not listening. I need to keep her calm right now so she doesn't tear her stitches or hurt her wound. I bought some natural calming aid stuff for her, and that seems to help a bit...until it wears off then she's back at it.

Has this happened with anyone else? Thoughts?

Thanks!
Crystal

I think cats react differently to sedation and anaesthetic. My sister says that her cat goes completely mental like yours.

If you are fearful for the cat's wellbeing, it might be as well to shut her in a room with lots of soft things and nothing that she can break!

It can go on for 2-3 days afterwards, I'm afraid.

Actually I'm currently in this situation and in need of help. My kittens crazy.I picked her up the day of her surgery (they wouldn't hold her overnight) and she was just as crazy as she always is. It's been 3 days now and I'm still worried on how I'm suppost to stop her from doing everything she pleases. She's around 7 months.
All they told me was to keep her confined in the carrier for a day or two. I take her out every hour or so. To get some food, water and go pee. But I don't want to confine her from her sister. What can I do to make sure she doesn't rip her stitching?

Worried new mommy. Used to males.

I err on the cautious side and crate cats after spay/neuters. 10 days for females, 5 for males. I use XL wire dog crates which can hold a litter box, bed/blanket and I use crate bowls that attach to the side of the crate for food/water.

I am not a fan of confining them to their carriers. Going overnight without access to water or a litter box isn't a good idea IMO.

Another option would be to confine her to a small bedroom/bathroom where there aren't too many things for her to jump up onto.

As for being apart from her sister...
Again, I err on the side of caution and don't let them play with their buddies while they recoup from surgery. This way, if there is an issue with sutures or the incision site, I know it is not due to the cat being too active or as a result of another cat.

It's just that I don't own a crate big enough and we live in a small apartment so confining her to a room is a little hard. The only room would be the bathroom but she still likes the counter, bathtub and to sit on the back of the toilet. I take her out of the carrier often to pee and have food and water in there with a blanket.
She hasn't licked at it but the incision is a tiny bit red at the end nearest to her privates.
I'm just scared she may hurt herself if I leave her in the bathroom without constant supervision.

Thanks. I put her in my storage closet. I cleared it out and she's in there with blankets of mine that smell like me, her litter box food and water. And since I've put her in there she's been better just meowing alllot. I've gone and cuddeled her about every hour. But her stitching is looking redder.

I have three cats and my third cat is my very first kitten and she is 7 months old she is a lover and is attached to me and has separation anxiety and I just got her spayed I am afraid to leave her alone and I live in a townhouse with a lot of furniture I put her in the bathroom by herself with a night-light a blanket, a litter box, food and water. I want her to sleep with me but my bed is so high up I'm afraid she's going to hurt herself and undo her sutures from her surgery. I work 8 hours a day and I leave her in the bathroom while I'm at work, when I get home she just wants to be around me and sleep with me, what should I do?
