My 7 months old calico cat got spayed yesterday morning. When we brought her home, she started vomiting and pooping blood. We took her back in today. And they said something about a parasite overload. And her being spayed killed them, and that's why there was blood. But she hasn't eaten or drank anything since before her surgery and I'm getting worried. She also has been doing nothing but sleeping. Is this normal?

Did the vet give her fluids when they checked her out today?

Vomiting and pooping blood post-op is NOT normal and certainly something to be concerned about.

How long have you had the kitten? Has she been dewormed in the past? Is she indoors or indoor/outdoor?

No they did not give her any fluids today. We've had her for about 4 months now. And she was dewormed when we adopted her. And she's an indoor kitten

Ok. If she were mine, I would be seeking medical attention from another vet. If your kitten has been dewormed and is indoor only, I don't see how the vet's explanation of parasite overload is appropriate.

I would deem your kitten's situation urgent. Some nausea is normal; but, bloody stool is not. She also needs fluids.

She's probably in a lot of pain. Pain meds are standard after this surgery. I have never heard of pooping blood because all the parasites are dead. If she had parasite overload the surgery should not have happened. What does her incision look like? Can you get her to at least drink water? Tuna juice?

Her incision looks normal. And she doesn't want anything. We tried 2 different wet foods, but not tuna. The only problem with going to another vet is, I don't have the money to do it.

If she is not eating by tomorrow morning Id take her back to your vet. Hopefully you won't be charged for this complication. She may need pain meds.
