I think our 8 month old kitten ate a piece of thick plastic (the kind that duct tape is wrapped in) that was about 2-3 inches long and possibly 1/8 inch thick.  I am freaking out!  I did not see her eat it, but the wrapper was hanging out of the trashcan in the room she was in and after spending twenty minutes going through the trash and the room to reconstruct the wrapper, we have found that there is a long thing strip missing -- with a few tiny chewed up bits lying around.  Our vet is closed and I'm afraid that by the time I could go in tomorrow, she will already be all messed up or sick or whatever happens...

I know that cats eat and pass weird stuff all the time, but that plastic CAN'T be good for something intestines or stomach... what do I do?!  If it hurts her, how long will it take?  If she did eat it in little pieces, is that any better... or is that worse?

There are what I believe to be bite marks on one side of the plastic wrapping and a tiny piece of plastic wrapping that definitely has chew marks on it.

if its not that paper masking tape that's made out of paper I'm not sure I'd wait until the morning to see a vet since you have a kitten. Ive never had a cat eat tape before.

oh no it's not the tape itself she ate it's the plastic that's around the roll of tape when you first get it... the plastic packaging it's in

Ohhh so it's a little piece of the plastic wrap sorry. I'd get her in tomorrow to the vet and have the vet feel around her belly. I'd also check her litterbox to assure she is still going number 2 the vet will probably ask you if she's gone. They can give her something to help her pass that or the vet may not be concerned at all.

Don't freak. If your cat starts throwing up or strains in the litterbox then you can freak. You should call your vet in the morning and go from there. It took my cat two days to start throwing up after eating a headband.
I'm not understanding exactly what was eaten. Plastic wrapping?

yes.  It is the kind of stiffer plastic, kind of like the kind used to seal certain drinks or chapstick or something like that.  I am keeping a close eye on her!  So far she doesn't seem uncomfortable, but I suspect that if we were to be uncomfortable, it wouldn't be quite yet, as it's only been about three hours.

Ursula threw up the plastic tonight -- I have never been so happy about cat vomit in my life!  It was a pretty big piece, also.  I think she may still throw up some more, but that was a significant portion of what was mission, and now that I know she can throw it up, I feel a lot better.  Still keeping an eye on her.  She has been acting normal except for right before and right after throwing up, so it is kind of hard to tell if she's all better or just getting there...

Thanks to everyone who has helped!

I'm glad your kitty threw up that plastic.  You may want to call the vet first thing in the morning and see what he/she says.

My kitty likes to chew on plastic bags from the store.  I did some research and found that corn syrup is an ingredient in some of these bags, which surprised me.  He ate a small strip a couple of months back and I freaked out.  The vet told me to not worry but to keep an eye on him.  He said that chances are it would pass through his bowels.  In fact, he was certain it would dissolve by the time it went all the way through.  The vet told me to call if he started to throw up, which he did not.

I have to be very careful about certain things around my Pumpkin.  He likes to chew on yarn, so I can't keep that anywhere near him.  And ribbons (like the ones I use to tie back curtains).  I've had to Pumpkin-proof this house to make sure he stays safe.  :)
