Recently my 20 year old cat has changed. She's been an inside cat but for the last week or so she's been freaking out (usually at night) clawing at doors and windows to go outside. All this time she's been so good with using the litterbox but also this last week or so she's been urinating on walls and she won't even eat! Her behavior has changed to where she doesn't even come by me anymore. It used to be where you couldn't even separate us! She'd sleep with me and while I would watch movies or video games she would always lay down on my lap. Well, with her urinating on walls I decided to put her on the back porch this morning because we've dumped thousands of dollars recently on new carpet, furniture and paint. As soon as I put her on the porch, I went to get her water bowl and bring it out there and as I did, she was already gone. She tore a hole in the screen and bolted. I see her wandering outside and going into neighbors yards and I don't like that. I don't like the idea that someone can pick her up and take her. I tried getting her a few times and when I get even five feet from her, she bolts like a bat out of hell like she doesn't even know who I am. it hurts me because she's been my only friend for the longest time now and I feel like she couldn't care less anymore. I wonder if she's dying? I don't know what to do. Does anyone here have any ideas or maybe have had a similar experience?

May I ask, has the cat been fixed? The peeing on the wall sounds like a territory thing. Perhaps another cat, maybe male, is coming around at night. She could be doing this regardless of whether she is fixed, but usually intact cats are more likely to.

Regarding getting her back, I've had several cats escape. Fortunately, I've always gotten them back. I've just patiently gone outside & gone in areas nearby, like other backyards. Hopefully she'll get hungry & come looking for food. Leaving some out would be helpful. Perhaps others have more tips regarding a cat that takes a while to come back. Hope it ends well!

Our neighborhood is full of cats. They're all outside cats and I know who they belong to. She's never done this before with them around. And yeah she's been fixed. She won't even use the litterbox anymore. The other night I caught her right in front of it peeing. She only inches away from the box and yet she did it outside.

Well, that's concerning in a different way. Cats urinating outside of boxes can often be attributed to medical issues. Urinary tract infections, bladder crystals...etc. Or it could be only behavioral & have no medical problem behind it. Hopefully, once you can catch her, you can bring her to the vet just to rule out any medical problems. Maybe a humane trap baited with food can trap her?
