So all of sudden my cat Orion has decided he wants nothing to do with his Royal Canin SO (for FLUTD).

Last Saturday he was cleared for having any crystals in his urine, but still had a small amount of bacteria, so they gave us some antibiotics.

On Monday we noticed he hadn't eaten any of his dinner from the night before, so we kept him on watch, we tried to give him more of the Royal Canin SO and hoped that he would eat his dinner.

Yesterday morning comes and he hadn't eaten but a few pieces from his food. I called the vet and they told us to take him off of the antibiotics and try to feed him canned fish or baby food, So later yesterday night we went to a few stores bought a ton of stuff including: electrolyte water mix stuff, high cal paw lick stuff and a few different types of baby food, canned fish, and a single pouch of wellness, in hopes he would eat, Orion started to eat a pouch of Wellness I got him, (turkey and chicken), He ate it like he had never eaten before, first a few bites from my hand and then later from the filled bowl.

Today because he was eating so well last night I decided to try and give him the Royal Canin SO again, and he looked at me like I had just broken his heart :(... We did also use a water syringe to give him some of the electrolyte water because we want to make sure dehydration doesn't happen.

On another note, my boyfriend and I are probably going to take him in anyway to get some fluids under his skin to make sure he is hydrated (better safe than sorry). I'm just hoping that we can figure out a way to help him get the SO down enjoyably for him.

Could you ask your vet  for the Royal Canin SO  in cans instead ? Maybe your kitty would prefer the wet food ..

It was the canned food. I have the two types canned SO, the pate and the "morsels in gravy". He doesn't want anything to do with either.

Oh that is hard .  Maybe you could try to mix a bit of the Wellness with warm water and pour over the top of the Royal Canin and see if that will work ..

Great Idea, I'll try it tonight, I'm open to more suggestions too if anyone has any. I got some Bonito flakes last night to try and mix in with it, it seemed to work for a few bites, but then he was like "Not eating this!"

For my FLUTD kitty, I use bonito flakes or sardines. Tiki Cat has a sardine cutlet food that is actually a complete diet, but I use it as an enticement to get him to eat the Hills C/D. Usually, I mix in a tsp with his meal & he'll eat almost anything like that! If you can't find the Tiki Cat version, perhaps try sardines for humans. Packed in water & no salt.

All of my cats (5) love Purina UR both wet and dry. That's for FLUTD. I only have one cat with condition but feed them all the same food. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad sign that all of them love it just, in case yours continues to complain, chances are he will like it too. I don't think there is any harm in replacing his wet food with Wellness pouches or using it to get him to eat the SO dry. I think the dry food selection is what really matters with this condition.

You could get some pH strips, you can get them on Amazon at a reasonable price, and check your kitty's urine pH on different foods.  It needs to stay in the 6.0 to 6.5 range.  The urine pH will be off before crystals begin to form.  It's really impossible to say without doing this if your kitty needs the prescription food.  Some kitties do fine on other wet foods, some kitties need the prescription food.

There is also the option if needed to add the dl methionine to another food.  This is an amino acid that acidifys the urine and is what is added to the prescription food.  You have to adjust the dosage and be vigilant about checking urine pH to get and keep the right dosage.  This is if your kitty had struvite crystals and the urine pH is too high.
