Hi everyone....so happy to have found this site and have been reading up on post PU surgeries.  We had our 1.5 year old boy Louie partially block for the first time 12/23/14 and fully blocked by 12/30/14.  He had the surgery last Tuesday and we picked him up on Thursday.  The first couple of days were hard and his first bowel movement was terrifying for him and me!  He has been eating well, drinking, peeing, and had a second bowel movement yesterday.  He still hops in and out sometimes...usually when he needs to poop.  The peeing is awesome :)  On top of all this, he also got a cold and the vet said to keep giving him the Clavamox for that as well.  He is on the Burenopherine (sp?) every 8 hours and that is helping him out.  The site looks pretty good.  We were told to not touch it or clean it...or have him lick it at all.

Sometimes when he pees, he leaves a bloody mark on the sheets....I think it is from the dried blood around the area from his first bowel movement.  His pee does not have blood in it.  He has also started to be interested in playing and he definitely wants to leave the room and walk around...which upsets his two brothers as they are totally freaked out by his cone!

We have 13 more days of constant supervision and I hope to god we can get through this in one piece!

Aww, poor little guy. One of my friends' cats just had problems and they were worried he was going to need surgery. Luckily for them (and him!) he didn't need the surgery, but it was scary for them. It sounds like things are progressing good with him! Louie is a cute name for a cat. This site is very helpful, I hope you stick around!

My Duncan had this surgery about 14 years ago and is still going strong at the age of 16 years. He blocked and reblocked too many times so this became our next option. As he aged, he stopped getting crystals and his urine is normal now. He did get the occasional urinary infection until he was about 10 years old (nothing serious, and went away easily with antibiotics) but even those stopped too. Just wanted to let you know that this surgery has done wonders for Duncan and never caused any serious issues for the rest of his life.

Best wishes to you and your kitty.

Thank you everyone :)  He is getting better slowly but surely.  This 3 week period of wearing the cone and supervising him all the time is quite taxing.  He is definitely feeling better and wants to take off the cone!  I am giving him some breaks to wash his face and paws while I brush his body.  We are tapering off the pain meds too and he is doing well with that.  His cold is also going away and my other two boys are not hissing at him that much anymore since I started bringing him out of the room to have his meals with his brothers.  I am looking forward to having his sutures out on Jan 26th!

Just wanted to give an update...Louie had his sutures out today!!  It looks beautiful at the incision site and we got to meet his surgeon today.  She wants us to leave the cone on for ideally another week...but definitely 3-4 days.  Thank God, I have my own business with understanding clients and an awesome husband who is willing to help me watch him 24/7!  I am just so grateful that we have passed this major milestone and just have a few more days ahead of us!  Louie is almost back to his own self...he will be jumping and leaping in no time!

What a crazy, emotional journey this has been!
