I've heard that giving a cat omega 3 supplements can help with their coat. This winter both of our cats have been experiencing dandruff and their fur is much more dull and not as shiny. Their diet hasn't been changed. Would giving them omega 3 help? If so, what is the best way to give it to them?

I give fish oil on occasion, just snip the end of a capsule (I use the human stuff) and mix into the food. I also give a bit of vitamin E (again, human capsule) when I give the fish oil because it helps process the fish oil in the body. I have 3 cats who share a bowl so I use 1000mg fish oil and 400IU vitamin E. Convenient since I use the same dose for myself and my dog. Lol! Even with 2 cats this dose would be fine once or twice a week. One cat you'd probably want to get smaller doses. I only give it to them maybe once a week. You can get the pump kind made "for pets" but these are a LOT more expensive and I find the pump stuff goes rancid faster. Plus the issue of taking up space in our fridge...

Mine all have great coats. (Diet is a variety of canned and dry jftr)

Oh and if you don't already, you should also brush them each day. It helps distribute natural oils and pull any dead hair from the coat.

Thanks! I will see if fish oil and vitamin E will help, I usually brush my cats 3 times a week unless they are shedding a lot, so I will try brushing them more often.
