That's a male, and very recently neutered, too. I bet he got away while leaving the vet's office after the surgery. . .better post ads and call all the local vets, etc. Someone must be looking for him.

I was surprised to see how well cared for he appeared. The cat is at the school where I teach which is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Probably a couple of miles from the nearest house. Maybe somebody dropped him off there???? He looks a little mature to me.

Maybe they felt he would be well-cared-for and had him neutered first as a courtesy? Because he's still shaved and not fully healed, so it had to have been done in the last week. Or he may have escaped from someone's car on their way home. . .still worth posting ads, I think.

Ok, thanks for the info. I'm wondering if he may have escaped from the car when they were there picking up their children.

Do you think he may have left home looking to mate even though he's fixed? Would cats travel that far looking for a female?

Hmm, that could be it. Being freshly neutered, he'd still have those hormones circulating, and mature toms can go 5 miles looking for ladies. Most people wouldn't let the cat outside so soon after being neutered but if he's a farm cat they might.

I would take him to a vet or shelter and ask them to scan him for a microchip.
