Hi everyone,

I just found out today that my 7-month old kitten needs to have surgery. I think they called it "luxating patellas" - her knees pop out. Most of the time she's just sitting and dragging her back legs, although she can walk on all fours for short distances. She's been a VERY active little girls until about 2 weeks ago. She's still playing (from a lying down position!) and eating and using the box normally. Three vets have examined her and concurr with with the diagnoses. They all said that this is usually a small dog problem and is rare in cats.

Has anyone had a cat with this? How did your cat handle the surgery? Is your cat okay now?

Thanks for any feedback.

I have never had a cat who needed the surgery, but it's a fairly routine surgery and most cats recover very quickly. The one's I have seen, are back to normal within a few months after surgery.

I just spoke with another surgeon. And I was AMAZED at the cost ($1000 per leg)!!!!!!! He actually suggested that she may not need the surgery. Since she's been on the anti-inflammatory and Cosequin, she's much more mobile - she actually jumped onto a chair this morning! She's playing and walking (most of the time). I think I'll wait and see what the next week or so brings.

Thanks for the positive thoughts, keep 'em coming (they can only help!)

D.
