Can anyone give me an idea of what this could be?

Hi everyone!

I'm new here, but I'm hoping someone could help me out. This red bad spot just appeared on my 9 month old kitten Hildi. She is currently in heat...I don't know if that means anything but I thought I'd let you know.it's not raised and she is an indoor cat with no sign of fleas. Could it bee from too much scratching? She doesn't really let me clip her back claws.

I'm a little worried and under any other circumstances would be rushing her to the vet, but I'm having some financial hardship this month. If anyone has any ideas on what it could be I would appreciate it!

Is she itchy? When my babies were young and got ringworm it first appeared like a cat or scratch by ear on one of them. I have noticed also when my cats get a scratch from another the fur falls out at the site or can be easily pulled out. Cats with earmites can also scratch so badly they cause scabs. Other than that I have no idea.

I simply can't spell today! I meant it appeared as cut near ear..

Thanks for such a quick response! She doesn't seem particularly itchy. I know when she does scratch it is usually that ear, but not excessively...at least not that I have observed. That is the only spot like this and I noticed it is a little wet like the red part is fresh blood.

When my cats have mystery cuts or scratches I usually put organic unrefined coconut oil on it. Not knowing what it is I would hesitate to put anything else and coconut oil is safe and soothing and they can ingest it. But that is just what I would do while I keep an eye on it.

Tried taking her to the vet but most were closed and the ones who weren't wouldn't see her because they were booked for the day :( looks like it will have to wait til Monday.

Going to try the coconut oil. Thank you for the tip!

If anyone else has any ideas I'd appreciate your input.

Do you have any other cats or pets? Does her ear(s) seem clean on the inside? Is it possible there was something stuck in her fur on that particular spot that she has scratched it loose with this as a result?

It doesn't seem anything bad to me. Just make sure to keep it clean (boiled water on a soft cloth, let it cool for a little then dip it) and try to keep her off from it as much as you can. If it gets bigger or at more spots or she gets more symptoms, then I would go and see the vet.

No other cats and her ear is a little dirty on the inside no too bad though. It is possible, it's just weird because even now the red spot is larger than when I took the pic above earlier today...though I haven't seen her scratching.

I am going to clean it and keep an eye on it. I'm trying not to get myself in a tizzy worrying about her. She's acting normallyrics otherwise (except for being in heat and rolling all over the ground.)

Could she be in such a trance from being in heat she accidentally hurt herself rubbing on something? The cats I have seen in heat that were confined inside did not look comfortable at all. I don't know what breeders do in those situations. It worries me it has gotten bigger.

But not to make you worry more, sorry. I don't think it is something serious as it is mysterious. I will be curious to know what vet says.
