It seems that each of my cats eats about 6 oz of raw food a day, and I just did a quick calculation and they eat about 22 lb a month for two of them. Does it sound right? I found this place nearby that orders and sells 15 2lb chubs for bulk price. At first I thought that's a lot of food, but then I realized it'll be like a month and 1/3 supply for my cats. Maybe I need to buy a freezer after all... How much do your cats eat for a month?

Ritz (female, 5.5 years old) eats around 3.2 oz of meat plus around .19 oz of liver and .19 oz of kidney, and around .7 oz of bone three times a week.
And alas lots of freeze dried treats. I've tried to wean her off of the treats, but she seems to be always hungry, especially at night.
Her weight is, well, a tad high.

That's it? How come my cats eat so much?

They are 10 lb and 12 lb, and one of them can gain some weight.

How often do you weigh your cats to see if they are maintaining weight?

My 2 cats eat about 3.5oz a day each. I weigh them once a week. My girl is 8lb,12oz and my man is 10lb,12oz. So by eating 3.5oz of raw a day, that's about 2.5% body weight for my girl and 2% body weight for my boy.

I do think that is kind of low but 3.5oz a day is how much I have been feeding them for a few months and they are pretty stable in weight. 6oz seems kind of high but if you are weighing your cats and they are not gaining weight, they may have a very high metabolism?

I only get their weight at vet's office, and their weights were exactly the same in Nov. and Dec. I guess I should start weighing them at home...

Mine have had stable weights for about 3 years. My 10 - 14 pound cats eat three meals of 1.25 ounces each. My smaller kitties eat between 2.625 ounces daily and 3 ounces daily. Funny enough, my 8 pound cat is the one that eats 2.625 oz. and my 7 pound cat eats 3 ounces. Cats, like people, have different rates of metabolism.

My 10 lb one looks like always hungry so I feed him more but he's skinny. He's more nervous and active than the other one, though.

I wonder if my cats are eating more because it's been a cold winter and being in Southern California our house is not very well insulated. Have you fed your cats canned food only and if you have did they eat more canned food than raw?

Oh on canned the 10 - 14 pound cats ate at least one 5.5 ounce can of food a day. Cats almost universally eat less on raw because it is so much more bioavailable to them nutritionally. Of course, often their levels of energy go up, and thus they're able to consume more calories. We moved into a large house from a small home, and I am focusing on getting more fat (almost twice the calories of protein) into their diet, most of them are losing weight with all the running around they're doing (and a few needed it. ;) ).

I do notice that in winter they want to eat more. This is most noticeable in the feral cats, who HAVE to consume more - staying warm takes a lot of energy. The outdoor cats consume at least twice as much as they do in summer. I go through food in winter at an incredible rate for them.

My cats eat about 20 lbs a month between them. They are 3 year old litter mates, the female weighs a little over 7 lbs, the male is about 8.5 lbs. She eats 5.12 oz daily,he eats 6.4 oz. They both seem to have pretty high metabolisms.

I have one cat that eats about 4 oz. a day. The other two eat about 6 oz. a day. Desmond would eat more if I let him. Once I added occasional freeze-dried he began to try to break into the pantry to get to it. He id get ahold of the bag once and chewed a big whole in the bottom. Now I have to put that in the freezer.
